Just curious if anyone has any personal accounts of what topical Glucosamine did/does for their skin. I've used a cream with Glucosamine for several years, but I'm interested in using a higher percentage of it now. I know it helps to lighten but what else has it done for your skin?

Thank you DM! I've seen that one. I just wonder if anyone has any personal accounts about how Glucosamine has benefited their skin. Very Happy

EG, I use 2% N-acetyl glucosamine and it seems to be working, but its synergistic with niacinamide. And there are other anti-ageing, anti-blemish, anti-glycation, anti-dark spot ingreds in the serum too ... so I cant narrow any results down to the NAG alone. Sorry.

What effect did you get from the glucosamine cream?

I am actually interested in what results all get from this ingredient as well, even if its mixed with other things, can anyone tell me what the results they get are?

Thank you fawnie! Smile

Tiny, I am hoping others chime in too Very Happy I think I've seen Keliu and Kassy say they use Glucosamine (and Niacinimide) but I'm not certain.

The benefits I noticed with the cream seem to be of course lightening of discoloration, but it seems to help broken capillaries a bit for some reason, and I think it might give me a more taut firm sort of look. I don't think it does much for fine lines but I think it might have a sort of firming effect. And my skin seems plumper/fuller with it, which I assume is due to the Glucosamine stimulating your own Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen production. I can differentiate between the effects of Glucosamine and Niacinimide because I've been experimenting with a cream that contains both vs. a cream that has just the Niacinimide. I realize it's not that cut and dry and there are variables, but the creams are pretty similar in ingredients. Which, I actually thought the cream without Glucosamine had better ingredients but I've been trialling that one alone and my skin doesn't seem as taut, if that makes sense. So I'm coming to the conclusion that Glucosamine does stimulate HA and Collagen and has a toning sort of effect.

I should be able to confirm if this is the case because I am going to start fawnie's kinnianag serum soon and will test it in a similar fashion. Though of course it has the Kinetin and such, but I *should* be able to tell if the Glucosamine is doing the same thing as my cream, because I've been using the cream with Niacinimide and Glucosamine for so long! So this will be interesting! I will try the serum with Glucosamine along with the regular Niacinimide cream and we will see what effects occur. I can tell minor subtleties with my skin and ingredient's effects because I pay an immense amount of attention to my skin. So what I want to find out is: will a serum with 2% Glucosamine give me the same benefits I noticed with my Niacinimide and Glucosamine cream? I really am hoping so because my cream was discontinued so I'm desperately trying to find a replacement for it. At least, something that will give me the benefits/effects and then I won't be so heartbroken! I am mostly interested in the Glucosamine part. That is what this thread is about after all!

Anyhow, if anyone else notices any benefits from Glucosamine I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts. I haven't read anyone else talk about a firming sort of effect from Glucosamine, but that is what I seem to notice.

There is also this issue though: the cream with Glucosamine is Glycerin based. The cream with just the Niacinimide is less Glycerin based and has more Sodium Hyaluronate. Yet I notice more of a tautness with the Glucosamine cream. Has anyone noticed any differing "toning" effects from Glycerin vs Sodium Hyaluronate, I wonder?

egyptiangoddess,

Which cream with Niacinimide and Glucosamine are you using? I use NCN formula-5 and it lightened my skin and keeps my acne under control. I am thinking about switching to Isis Cosmeseuticals Niacinamide & N-Acetyl Glucosamine Cream, just because of the price, $49.99 for 16 oz. Although I read that their customer service is horrible. If it's DIY, could you please share your formula? Thank you.

Hi Gosha! Smile Oh my goodness, I have a very special connection to the name isis! How funny! I've never heard of that cream. But if their customer service is horrible, no point in spending money there!

The cream I spoke about is Olay Definity Intense Hydrating cream. It was discontinued I'm afraid! They do have a new version called "Olay Total Effects Tone Correcting night cream" but I had a bad reaction to it due to the fragrance, but perhaps you might like it?

I do not have a recipe, but how about I look around online and post one for you later? Actually, If I remember correctly, the "bulkactives" site has a recipe for a Niacinimide and Glucosamine cream! Have you seen it?

Thank you for your thoughts on that NCN 555 formula! I've got my eye on that one as well. Very Happy

Hi Tiny! Smile Yes I pay a lot of attention to my skin. I enjoy testing things, especially if the info might benefit others with their skin Smile It's not Kassy's serum, it's fawnies KinNiaNag serum! Smile It should be here this week or next. I've seen Kassy's recipe for her Niacinimide and Glucosamine serum and I've got it bookmarked too. Very Happy I haven't got any DIY supplies so I can't DIY anything yet!

In his book, Dr. Setterfield recommends the use of oral glucosamine following rolling as it benefits the wound healing process.

Glycerin will cross the skin barrier, regular MW hyaluronic acid will not. Both are humectants. Are you confident the two creams you are using contain the same amount of glucosamine?

What do you mean the two creams I am using? Only one of the creams has glucosamine.

Yes, pretty certain they contain the same amount of niacinimide. Regardless, I know for certain niacinimide does NOT firm/tighten my skin. (I use niacinimide serums and so on, and they do not have this effect.) That's why I'm wondering if it's the glucosamine or glycerin or perhaps both.
