Whoa! That is a long article. I'll have to save it to read later, but I did read parts of it right now. Very informative. Thanks for posting! |

This may be a long article, but for still a newbie to skincare, like me, this is a great summary!!!
One thing that I have never heard before this article:
Quote: |
Topical Fluorouracil. A twice daily application of topical fluorouracil was shown to improve skin appearance. The cream stimulates wound healing similar to laser therapy. |

One more thing I noticed in the article:
Quote: |
Never rub the creams under the eyes, as this may cause more wrinkles to form. Instead, apply these products with a light tapping motion to stimulate the skin. |
At my last facial, the lady told me I have to gently press my fingers from the outer corners of my eyes, following the bone, towards the inner corners, and only glide backwards when applying eye cream, in order to flush the lymph nodes (and she did this about 10-15 times on my under eye area). This is an example of me getting confused with skin care and not knowing which way is right anymore.
But, given the more pronounced blue veins that I've been noticing under my eyes, along with dry, crepey, sensitive, red skin, since she "taught" me this awesome technique, I think I found out the hard way
Now I don't even want to use up the rest of the 5 facials I have left in my "subscription", which I got thinking it was a great experience, and learned a lot... Who knows how they'll damage my skin next time! |

Brings to mind a question. What do Fluorouracil, ablative lasers, dermarolling, acids, and various lights, sound waves, and cytotoxic chemicals have in common? They can all improve skin appearance by the same mechanism - destroy the old skin and hope for some good healing. Problem is, healing is age dependent (amongst other variables).
I'm not criticising - I'm just pointing out. |

Am I the only one who associated fluorouracil with chemotherapy? |

It is a chemo drug, also used for skin cancer treatment. They found an "off label" use of it for reducing wrinkles, it kind of creates a peel/ laser effect. It is not a fun treatment. I used it for weeks to treat a pre-cancerous spot that didn't respond to other methods. It's painful and creates scabs on your face. |

Shows how long I have been out of pharmacy, I don't even remember topical 5-FU existing only for injection. Hope your lesion is now fully healed? |

Yep, it definitely took care if it. It was a better choice than having the spot cut out, which would have left a scar.
I urge anyone thinking of using fluorouracil(efudix) as a wrinkle treatment to do some research before using it. |
