I am always on the look for a great hair styling product that will make my curls/waves perfect. I've tried a lot of products, and the problem I usually have is my hair is either too crunchy or too frizzy. I also like to let my hair dry by itself, which can be a problem with some products that work great with a hairdryer but not so great without it. What I do most of the time is mix mousse with cream and it usually gives me an acceptable result, but I would rather find a unique product that does it all.
A few weeks ago, I attended a L'Oréal warehouse sale and stumbled upon Pureology products which I've always wanted to try after reading great reviews about them in magazines. So I decided to buy the Real Curl cream, thinking I had possibly found my perfect hair styling product. I was so disappointed. First of all, the cream smells like bad man perfume. I wouldn't mind it if it was subtle and smelled good, but it's not the case. Secondly, while applying the product, I noticed mica particles in my hands... and it's not a holiday edition. I don't know if it's supposed to make my hair shinier, but I would rather have shine from active ingredients such as oils than with superficial ones. Finally, when my hair was dry, it was very frizzy. In other words, I am very disappointed with this curl cream which cost around 20$ on sale... Maybe it's just this one product and they have other amazing ones ? Have you ever tried a great Pureology product ? Also if you've found an amazing styling product for curls, please let me know ! |

I prefer to air dry too. My tip for great curls is to try the Curly Girl method - not just styling products, but turning the whole way most of us treat our hair on its head. The thing that made the biggest difference was stopping using shampoos based on sulphates and other anionic surfactants, that reduced the fluff/ pouf significantly within a week. After that getting serious moisture back into my hair which took place over weeks to months.
Recently I used hairspray and silicones for the first time in over a year (wedding) and only switched back from three weeks of stringy lank waves to bouncy shiny ringlets when I washed the last of that c*@p out and put coconut oil in. This is the thread that gave me my lightbulb moment

I have naturally curly fine hair and I also let mine air dry. I love TiGi Curlesque Curls Rock Amplifyer but the trick is to emulsify a bean size dab in wet palms and scrunch into hair. Otherwise it does leave the hair crunchy. I do scrunch while my hair is air drying to help shape it. I've been using TiGi for over 2 years after trying nearly everything under the sun. |

Firefox: Thank you for those tips and the thread reference. I have never payed much attention to whether there were sulphates or not in my shampoo but I will change that. Which brand do you use ?
Debb: Thanks for your recommendation. I've never used TIGI products, but a hairdresser once used one of their shampoos on my hair (from Bed Head collection I think) and I thought it smelled amazing ! I'll try this one. |
