Hello everyone. I have skimmed through a few articles and I truly appreciate the helpfulness of everyone on this site. I'm hoping to find some help myself.
I am a 23 year old male who is finished with chemical SS (breaks me out). I have sensitive and somewhat dry skin. I have such problems finding a good facial sunscreen to use during the day its maddening. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some options.
I was leaning towards Burnout KIDS or Devita for my face. I have no problem using moisturizer underneath so an all-in-one product isn't necessary but Devita does sound nice. I would ideally need something transparent and high in SPF but also nourishing to my sensitive, acne prone skin. Thanks for the support! |

Welcome! If you address the underlying dryness and sensitivity, you will have more options as to sunscreens. Ensure your cleansing, exfoliating and shaving products do not contain any known irritants or drying ingredients, eat an anti-inflammatory low glycaemic index diet. Having said that both Burnout and Devita are well thought of, I have reactive skin (atopic eczema/ contact dermatitis) and find the Devita Rx Ultrasolar (SPF50) very gentle. The Devita Body Block also has very gentle ingredients and is more hydrating. |

Thanks you so much! I actually have Crohn's Disease so I eat a very healthy diet although on rare occasions I treat myself mildly.
The real reason behind my dryness and sensitivity is that I use a retinoid product at night. I am currently using La Roche Posay Toleriane products which are just great for me but my sunscreen, Solbar Shield, is sort of drying throughout the day. It also leaves a bit of white on my face.
Is it okay to use moisturizer under DeVita because I gather that sometimes it isn't moisturizing enough? |

Ah so you will know the importance of oily fish and suchlike, excellent! Maybe choose a retinoid that doesn't put your skin under so much stress? Long term low grade irriation/ inflammation can contribute to the ageing process, short term it can make skin more susceptible to other irritants and to UV damage. You can use a moisturiser under any physical susncreen: that is any based on zinc oxide and/ or titanium dioxide. Those which also contain chemical sunscreen agents must be applied to clean, bare skin. |
