I am 41, so I am concerned with Antiaging, I have fairly sensitive skin. Currently in the am I use DIY kassys vit c and as, in the pm retina .05 and cerave pm. Should I exfoliate in addition to this To benefit my skin? Or is retina enough exfoliation? |

My esthetician recommended me to use Retin A 2-3 times a week, Vit C Serum every other day or every day depending on the strength, and an AHA/BHA exfoliator on days when I don't use Retin A. My skin is somewhat sensitive.
If Retin A and Vit C serum do not cause any sensitivity issues, you can add a gentle exfoliator. But it is not necessary, in my opinion.

Do you mean you are using a DIY L-ascorbic acid serum or another form of vitamin C? If you are using L-AA you are already using two acids and should not require any additional exfoliation as a matter of course. TBH if you are using R-A and L-AA IMO your skin is not nearly as sensitive as you imagine - many people cannot tolerate even one! Just work on keeping your skin hydrated so any fine lines are plumped out and your skin is best able to exfoliate naturally. |

Agree with Firefox.
More is not better with exfoliation, quite the opposite is true. |

It's worth knowing that low grade irritation and low grade dehydration will not be obvious until you resolve them. CeraVe is great, but be sure that everything in your routine works towards hydration not against it - cleanser and any occasional exfoliant should not be stripping your skin for example. You might even experiment with a different C serum, the L-AA *can* be drying and irritating because it contains alcohol as has a low pH. Whereas this recipe contains sea emollient, glycerin and borage oil which all moisturise.

Also be sure you are eating a hydrating, anti-inflammatory diet which can help your skin hold water reduce any sensitivity. Plenty of oily fish and other essential fatty acids, nine portions of fruit and veg a day, protein and low glycaemic index carbs little and often. Limit salt, sugar, alcohol and caffeine. |
