Hello! I have oily sensitive skin. It is prone to breakouts but has been cLear since starting retin a. My problem is I have tried many SPF moisturizers but they sting my skin. I have some dark spots from previous acne that I don't want to get darker. Plus I need to use the SPF with retin a. Can anyone please recommend a moisturizer that would work or me? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Ive tried aveeno, murad, zen med, cetaphil, and a few others. Thanks for any help. |

Pratima Neem Rose (face) or Neem Vetiver (body) is a wonderfully lightweight moisturizer in addition to being an spf30 sunscreen with micronized coated zinc oxide.

Cyoot little aluminum pump bottle!
Please bear in mind that NO sunscreen will protect you 100%. And reapplying every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating is key. Avoiding the sun between 10 am and 2 pm (prime tanning time!) is a good idea as well as wearing protective clothing. Even under an umbrella we get sun reflection. Even in the car thru the windows UV-A is transmitted. We really need to wear sunscreen every day - the cumulative exposure adds up. |

If your skin is oily, sensitive AND sunscreens all sting the problem may be the products you are using the rest of the time sensitising your skin. Retin-A and UV exposure certainly won't help: can you sit under a large sun umbrella or awning? Have you considered switching to retinol? Is your diet and lifestyle anti-inflammatory and hydrating?
Agree with Fawnie that unless you are willing to use a white sunblock there is nothing that blocks 100% of UV so assures you won't experience hyperpigmentation. IMO you need at least a factor 50 if you are out in the sun daily. How many of the products you have tried have been physical only (zinc and titanium) and how many contain chemical agents? Might help you analyse what the problem ingredient(s) are.
Alternatively have you considered making your own from a base cream you know suits your skin and micronised zinc/ titanium? |

I call my heavy-duty boating SS "Purple Jesus" cuz of the grapeseed extract and other anti-aging ingreds in it. And also because it protects you!! lol Purple Jesus is vodka and grape juice, in case you werent a party animal in Uni.
I made a thick base cream and blended in 25% coated zinc oxide + some nice extracts to give it some color. Works a treat and if you rub it in long enough the white goes away. Not as hard to make as it seems. Just takes a powerful stick blender or something with some muscle to make it all hold together.
Its thick enough to stay on the skin thru lots of sweating and getting wet on the water but doesnt dry out the skin like some high zinc SSs do. |

Thank you for the suggestions. I do sit under an umbrella most of the time. My 4 year old insists that I swim to so I have to be in the pool some. I ordered Elta md sunscreen after talking with my derm about it and also reading a review posted here about it. I'm going to also use a white sunscreen when out by the pool just to be on the safe side!! I'll use the other when I'm going somewhere. Thanks again!! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Anything by La Roche Posay. I use their Melt-In Sunscreen Milk as my daily moisturizer mixed with a little grapeseed oil, and it protects well and sinks in to a matte, smooth finish. Plus, it is SPF 60, which is fantastic. I believe in using super-high sun protection every day. Probably because I like my porcelain skin, though. Some people want a tan. |
