It was on this very forum that I first learned of a product that could finally help rid my hair of frizz. I think it was secretly who first came to my attention with her review of Global Keratin.

I was born with thick, wavy hair. Somewhere in my 40s, my hormones changed and my once silky hair turned coarse and wirey and poofy...I resorted to a flat iron, but cringed at the thought of what I was doing to my hair. Yes, I tried and still use weekly deep conditioning treatments (coconut oil) and I treat my hair like the finest thing I own - no sulphates, less than 2 shampoos a week, minimal heat and color processing - none of it worked. I looked unprofessional and unkempt with this wild mop on my head and I refuse to give up my blonde mane.

So....I searched for a product that would the kill frizz but not kill my natural wave...in other words, no stick straight hair. Temporary silicone based leave-ins will kill my frizz, but I wanted results that would last day after day, for many days.

I think I may have found it: Marcia Teixeira Soft Treatment for Caucasian and Asian hair. The brand also includes formulas for African American hair.

This is typically applied by licensed cosmetologists - but I had no problem using it at home.

I clarified my hair, did not follow it with a conditioner (keep it porous so the product will sink in), blew my hair totally dry, then began to apply the product in sections, blew the hair dry again, then flat ironed according to directions.... I could have shampooed and conditioned at that point, but decided to wait a day.

I now have nice beach waves that lay flat around my head, instead of looking like I stuck my finger in an electric socket.

This may be my ultimate solution. I will know for sure if this look lasts for at least a few weeks. I am certain it probably damages my hair in some way, but sometimes you have to pick your poison. I couldn't deal with my hair the way it was and to make it look decent, I spent way too much time with lotions, potions and hair torture devices.

Be well, BFG
