I'm just finding out about gua sha facial massage, and have been reading the different posts about gua sha here. It really sounds good, and I want to start doing it! I think it would be a great adjunct to facial exercise programs, especially those that advocate "challenging the skin" with massage, etc., like Ageless and FlexEffect.

The Nefeli web site has a new DIY Gua Sha Facial Massage DVD that I'm interested in (here: http://www.nefeli.com/nefeli-gua-sha-facial-self-care-dvd-a-do-it-yourself-step-for-younger-looking-skin.html) but it's awfully expensive for just one DVD - $50.00!! Yikes!

I suppose I could justify paying that much, since it's probably less than an actual class to learn it, or a spa visit, and it's something I'd have, to review or work along with anytime I wanted.

Before spending that much for it, though, thought I'd ask here if anyone has this DVD, and if so, what do you think of it?

I know there are lots of clips on YouTube showing various ways to do a gua sha facial, but this one's from Dr. Ping Zhang who, as many here know, is an expert in anti-aging TCM, with years of experience. I would trust this to be the best way to learn the technique properly. Here's a short clip from the DVD on YouTube with an introduction by Dr. Zhang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baryu8JLPD0

So if anyone has this DVD, please let me know what you think of it, and if you think it's worth the price. Thanks!

By the way, Nefeli's shipping charge for just one DVD is an exorbitant $12.99! But Nefeli is selling it through Amazon too, and the shipping there is a slightly more reasonable $8.99.

I don't have this DVD but, it looks very interesting. Thanks for posting the clip. Too bad the DVD is so expensive. I would definitely like to use this technique on my face. I already checked ebay for gua sha tools. I think the ones made of stone would be best. Many of them are made of animal horn. Did you happen to see photos of people that had their body scraped? Man, does that look brutal! I don't think I could handle getting bruises like that.

Thanks for your reply, Packratmack!

I haven't ordered the DVD, but I did order a Gua Sha Bian stone from a seller on eBay. It's this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110902506865?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I agree, the ones made of stone or jade would be best. I don't like the idea of using animal products anyway.

No kidding, the photos of the body scraping make the "victims" look like escapees from a horror movie, LOL. I'm hoping that the Bian stone I'm getting won't be rough enough to do that, even with the light pressure I'd be using.

I ordered the stone in case I cave and decide to get the overpriced DVD (somebody stop me!!) If and when I do, I'll post a review of it here.

By the way, I emailed Nefeli, complaining about their exorbitant shipping charge, asking if they had a more affordable option, but never got a reply. Nice customer service, eh? So if I order the DVD, it will definitely be through Amazon.

The facial Gua sha on the video clip looks very similar to tanaka massage, just using the tool instead of fingers.
