Emu oil vs. ostrich oil

My apologies if this has already been covered. I recently started using emu oil and really like the results. However, I recently discovered an ostrich farm near my home & the proprietor sells ostrich oil. I like the thought of knowing exactly where it's sourced, but the information on the web is confusing about the benefits vs. emu oil . Anyone have any personal experience? Thanks in advance.

I did a search and only found one member mentioning that they ordered Ostrich Oil for use after a peel. I have no personal experience and do not recall much discussion on it's use?

Many of the claims made about emu oil are unsubstantiated, and some originate with the American Emu Association. There is very little on PubMed about emu oil in dermatology.

There is just a plethora of anecdotal evidence all over this forum and many others, Dr. Pickart is a big fan! Smile

I happen to love Emu Oil, but I also love many oils you say are no good for the skin?

Please stop erroneously paraphrasing me DarkMoon, I generally attribute positive and negative effects to specific fatty acids rather than simply specific oils. The problem with anecdotal evidence is most fail to take account of what products they have stopped using, or distinguish between an occlusive effect and a 'nourishing' effect.

"oils you say are no good for the skin" = erroneously paraphrasing. Ditto "obvious dislike" which is also erroneously attributing emotions.

I think it is great you found and liked emu oil and if your skin like it, keep using it. Maybe see if you can get a small sample from the supplier and try it for yourself! I have also headed that some more shady emu oil sellers sell ostrich oil instead of emu because it is cheaper. I have never used ostrich oil before, but I could imagine it would be somewhat similar if sellers are selling ostrich oil in the guise of emu oil.

Where have you seen this, just curious I buy Emu Oil from a source I trust. This does make me wonder if the supplier is selling the retailer Ostrich Oil or Emu Oil? hmm

It is actually on the garden of wisdom site on the emu oil page. Not sure how long it has been posted there but I know many shop from GOW including myself and I find them to be an honest and reliable seller, but of course there is no proof or anything. Just something to keep in mind if you are planing on getting emu oil, get if from a site that you trust or has been recommended to you.

The last few times I purchased Emu Oil was from GOW so I feel a lot better, if they put a warning up I am guessing they are checking to make sure what they sell is the real deal! Smile

I am not sure to be honest Lotus, I know I have used Emu Oil (assuming it was) and like it, I really do not have any information on what benefits Ostrich Oil has for the skin?

I just don't care for deceptive business practices, if you say you are selling me XYZ, I want XYZ, it is the principle of it that bothers me. Wink

Emus are indigenous to Australia, therefore, Emu Oil is commonly available here as a general cure-all for everything. It is so safe it can be taken internally. Plus it can be used on horses and pets.

I've been using it for years as a facial moisturiser and I think it's great stuff. Whether Ostrich Oil compares, I wouldn't have a clue - I've never really heard anything about it. Personally, I would be inclined to stick with the tried and proven Emu Oil if possible.
