Plz help... i dont know any thing about mineral makeup...i am interested in getting mineral makeup foundation and powder...which is the best ...
is it a must to apply foundation too for a more even tone finsh...my skin tone has become much even since i am using obagi nuderm...so i was wondering to stitch to mineral makeup then my regualr heavy MAC face powder..
Is mineral makeup more natural and lighter than the regular makeup ? is it transparent or do i need to find a right shade for my skin ? is it okay if my skin is already even tone, then i use only the moneral powder and not the foundation ? plzz help... |

Colourscience was recommended to me by my derm. I really like the product and it gives nice coverage (and SPF!). The compact (pressed) has more dense coverage if you put it on with the sponge, but average coverage if you use a brush (I use a kabuki brush). You can also get the loose powder with the powder in the handle of the brush! SO awesome, I just couldn't find my colour locally! EDS had really good descriptions of the colours, so just read them for direction on the colour. Good luck! |

I've been using Alima Pure for 1 year now. I am acne prone with oily skin. So far, so good. And Alima is the only one that matched my skin tone. They can also do custom blends. I love their eye colors and constantly get samples to try. The concealers don't match very well on my skin, so I got the lighter version of my foundation. I wear warm 6 and use warm 5 to conceal. Here is their web sitewww.alimapure.com |

Hi and welcome to the forum! There are allot of terrific mineral cosmetics available - you need to request samples from several brands and find the one that works best for your complexion. I personally like Lumiere the best and I prefer loose powder over the pressed. It is very important to use a high quality brush to apply your mineral make-up properly and set with a finishing spritz.
Other brands to consider: Alima, Lauress, Jane Ireland.

Aromaleigh is my fave. I do agree, though, it's good to get samples from several lines. Alima is good, you might want to try J. Lynne and Monave too. Be careful - playing with all the beautifully crafted mineral eye shadows is addictive! |

Recently I am trying the everyday minerals. I think this is the best mineral makeup I have ever used. I like the original glow style, and what's more important for me is, this is good use for my dry skin.
Besides, the brush of this brand is also cool. |

Just be careful not to get one with bismuth oxychloride. Google it....no good.
BareMinerals ID has this (and I wore that for 5 years!) and I think it is the culprit in my pore size! Also, if I remember correctly, I think Colorescience has it too. Finding out about the bismuth oxychloride explained why my face would itch often too.
I recently bought Silk Naturals, it's pretty neat. You get a bag of pigmented powder, and a bag of white powder. There is a scoop and you mix it to match your skin tone. It is available in light, medium and heavy coverage. I got medium. I like it but I also want to try Afterglow and Monave. I've heard great things about them.
Check them out and do a bit of research. GL! |

Bismuth Oxychloride is bad news in MMU. Several years ago, when I was "test-driving" different MMUs, I tried one that contained it. It was a foundation-type MMU, so I had it all over my face. I was outside in the park with my toddler, it was warm, and my face started itching like crazy. I couldn't get back in the house fast enough to wash it off. Too bad, because otherwise that particular MMU was nice and velvety. It was only later that I learned that bismuth oxychloride does that, and many brands contain it. |

I have tried many loose mineral powders and I LOVE Afterglow. Great brush too. You can buy online. Several made my face itch, but not Afterglow. People always complemented my complexion when wearing. |

I use BareMinerals and I see that Pur and Colorescience also contain bismuth oxychloride. I don't think I'm allergic as I've never had any itching or redness while using BareMinerals, but it sounds like you're saying bismuth oxychloride might be doing damage to skin even without allergies? Could you elaborate? I did try googling it but came back with thread after thread relating to allergies ... however, I'd stop using BareMinerals if I thought it could be harming my skin in the long term (OR giving me larger pores! I need all the help I can get in that arena!).
I did look up Aromaleigh and saw they're pretty good about samples ... that's the bummer - I'm using BareMinerals in the first place because they have a store in my mall and was able to try it on first! I'm not "in love" with it or anything; I think it works for what I want it to do but I think a lot of other make-ups could work too. So I'd consider switching to Aromaleigh IF I could get more beauty-insider info into that bismuth oxychloride (because being able to run to the store if I'm out/if I spill it all over my bathroom rug/if my neice decides to play "makeover" without asking me first/etc, is pretty darn nice). Anyone else have non-itching problems with bismuth oxychloride? |

I don't think bismuth oxychloride does any long-term damage to skin; it couldn't be used in MMU if it did. It's just that if you're allergic to it, you'll know it!
It's possible bismuth oxychloride adds something to the texture of MMU, creaminess or easy application; maybe that's why it's commonly used in many of the various formulations out there. But if it's in the MMU you use and you haven't had issues with it, and you like that MMU, than I don't see any reason to switch to something else. |

I quite like Uglogirl...www.uglogirl.com...no bismuth in the ingredients and it has a finish that does not look 'dry' or powdery. However I must add that their site is temporarily closed for re-structuring. Jane Iredale is another one that I like to use as well.
I agree that a good brush is essential, and have two from Alima and one from Uglogirl. I use all three and find its handy to have more than one so that I am able to wash them frequently; can wash one and have another to use whilst it is drying. |

Read the reviews at www.makeupalley.com There are pros and cons to all brands and it's very confusing.
What I want to know is, where is the best place to try out different brands and learn about the techniques and tools needed? At some point I'd like to try mineral foundation but have two bottles of L'Oreal to use up first. |

I've tried several mineral ranges & I think Jane Iredale is the best. great coverage from the pressed powder & really natural looking. I also use bare escentuals bisque as a great dark bags cover up.
Good luck - you won't look back. |

Thank you all for your help:) I use Makupe Forever's Duo Mat for my face right now. It's really great stuff! Just not sure if I can put it under the eyes- I get paranoid about undereye stuff- worried about damaging them since mine are so pale and thin-skinned! |
