Sounds worse than it is, but it's basically just a ruptured blood vessel on the white of my eye.

I was talking to my daughter and she said, "Why does your eye look so red?" Well, my eyes seem red all the time to me, but she said the outer corner of my left one looked extremely red. I checked out my eye in the bathroom mirror, and it is indeed red like a bursted blood vessel. It doesn't hurt in the least. I've had conjunctivitis in the past, so I know it's not that. I googled pictures (ewww!) and found plenty of pictures of what I have and found out it is called subconjunctival hemorrhage and should go away on its own in around 2 weeks.

It's not too pretty, but as long as I just look at people head on and don't look to the right when I talk to them, I shouldn't scare anyone away.

Has anyone ever had one of these?

I did this to my eye trying to get a contact out. The trouble was there was no contact in that eye. I kept poking around over and over. By the time I realized what was wrong I had a big red blood spot on my eye. It went away in 5 or 6 days and I never had any problems.

I did. Could have been caused by the sneezing and coughing I was doing with a cold. Freaked people out but it went away and I've only had mild ones since.

I've had these several times, infact, just woke up with them, have no idea what trama caused it? But they do go away just fine. I did go to Dr. first time this happened and he gave me drops, thats not needed, it will heal on its own!

These posts are comforting. The weird thing is I don't remember doing anything that would cause this. I haven't had a coughing or sneezing attach or poked my eye. The only think I could think of was that I got some moisturizer with sunscreen too close to it and it stung slightly for a minute or so, but I looked up side effects of getting sunscreen in your eyes and a ruptured blood vessel was not on the list.

Very odd! I hope mine goes away quickly like yours did, Cookie. I read it could take up to 2 weeks to go away. Shock

Does anyone know if once you get one of these you'll be more likely to get more in your furture?

This only happened to me once. I was rubbing my eyes at work and then the whole eye went red. It didn't hurt, but my boss looked at me and said "What happened to your eye?" I didn't even know that it happened.

It is really weird that it happens so suddenly, but I am grateful that it doesn't hurt or hasn't caused any vision problems. It's been two days now, and it seems to be getting better, approaching that orangey/yellow stage. Yuck! Laughing
