Hi everyone,
I seriously need your help because I'm so vain. Since I began dating a man with a beard about four months ago, I have all this acne on my chin. I think it is more due to irritation from his stubble than anything else. He's quite a manly man.
So, I don't know what to do about these persistent zits (some small, some, I would describe as cystic--hard bumps that last forever under the skin, right?). It's like I'm suddenly playing a game of whack-a-mole--I successfully do away with one and another two arise immediately in another place.
They are ONLY on my chin. I just don't have the right tools to combat them, I think. I usually use Osea's Corrective Oil, which ALWAYS has worked for me to eliminate zits within 24-48 hours, even monthly hormonal ones. But the bottle I have right now seems to be a slightly different formulation and very ineffective (I wonder if I contact them and mention to them that I've been using it for years and that it smells different [seemingly doesn't have as much tea tree oil in it] and isn't working, they would replace it for me???) I really don't have much else in the way of anti-acne stuff, and have always had remarkably clear skin in the past (aside from a bout of peri-oral dermatitis, suspiciously also on my chin area!).
By the by, my dermatologist takes one look at my tiny, tiny bumps and tells me to use oil free sunscreen and a retinoid, and sends me on my way. She's a University Dr. and I think she sees people with really terrible skin problems. She treats me with laser for rosacea.
I would so appreciate your opinions on this. I don't think it's peri-oral dermatitis again because those bumps would disappear and then come back in the exact same spots. This problem is in the same place on my face--the chin area, as I noted--but the acneic spots run the gamut from big to tiny, whiteheads.
My questions:
1. what, if anything, should I ask my dermatologist for?
2. What otc and/or diy products would you recommend?
Thanks EDS!!!!!

I should add: I'm not using any new products or doing anything else out of the ordinary for me.

Perhaps you should try some Retin A Micro. It's supposed to be good for acne. |

When I saw the title of your post, I thought "benzoyl peroxide" - I use a dab when I get a pimple after a peel (which is every time, dammit). Dries it right up. But I wouldn't want to use it daily - assuming you want to keep kissing this fella, that's what you'd have to do and it's terribly drying.
Is he worth the pimples? LOL |

Have you considered that they could be hormonal? Because hormonal acne usually appears on the chin. |

Is he using anything on his skin/beard?
Thats one thing to check. My skin breaks out if I over exfoliate/massage and I suspect it similar to what is happening for you.
I'd treat your skin very gently, use a very mild pH balanced cleanser (the Skin Beautiful Rosehip is nice), minimal moisturiser (if you can get away with it) as the irritation will cause your skin to be oilier anyway. I'd try to go very basic (acoid retinoids as this will make it worse if it IS caused by over stimulation of your skin from all that snogging.
I also found a few drops of ACV in my facial rinsing water helped too.
Otherwise it may be hormonal and just co-incidence that you have started dating this guy? Chin acne tends to be hormone related. |

I had 2 little pimples on my chin yesterday (maybe over-stressed or something) and I put retin-A on these 2 very small pimples. This morning there were gone! I did not do anything extra-ordinary. Just clean my face with my normal regimen every single night and it worked for me. BTW, don't touch them as it will get worst!

First of all, forgive me for laughing at your "manly-man" statement. Love it! Thanks for making me smile!
My DIL had something similar and she took a course of doxycycline for 10 days and it went away!
Cystic acne though seems a little different than just bumps. Hormonal, a bit? Usually for me, a cystic acne bump comes after I have aggravated a smaller bump, such as picking at it. I have to take the Baby Q and an antibiotic (or spironolactone internally) and get it to simmer down.
It does sound like there maybe some "aggravation" of that area, taking a smaller bump to the next level.
It also may be worth looking into to see if he uses any products in it that may be causing a reaction.
Good luck! |
