So i had a lot of dead, gross, flakey skin and a good amount of pimples/blackheads/clogged pores pretty much all over my nose and.. basically all over the t-zone area. My skin was blotchy, irritated, and there were just so many flakes of dead skin just all over... even my favorite daily scrubs weren't doing the job like i thought they were. My skin was really looking under the weather. I also really felt the need for a facial.. to pop all those little suckers. At the time, i was away from home so i couldn't easily get to a beauty salon and get a professional facial.I knew i needed to do something because my skin just felt disgusting and looked that way as well.I couldn't stand it.. so i scratched my chin.. took a look around my bathroom sink and then all of a sudden a light bulb went on in my head. The electric tooth-brush! I know you're all probably thinking... what the hell is this girl thinking, but i tell you, it works miracles. Ever heard of the Clarisonic face brush? Ok, let me give you a little summary of the product: basically, it was inspired by the electric tooth brush, it's designed to exfoliate, and has fancy brush heads and cleansers that come with it. Sounds cool, no? 200$ for the whole thing. You can get some deals around the internet but thats the general price. I was like hah... you gotta be kidding me! And thats why i thought of the electric tooth-brush. First off,the great vibrating spinny kind of motion, great for circulating the skin and sloughing off all the dead skin cells and dirt thats clogging your pores. And the bristles on the brush are just great! I actually think tooth-brushing your face is even better than the famous "Clarisonic face brush" for the very reason that its small and can get into small spaces so this way, you're sure to exfoliate every pore on your face. I actually visited my dermatologist a few weeks ago, and she said, "wow! your skin looks great! what have you been doing?" so i told her Cetaphil mixed with Jojoba oil PLUS the electric tooth-brush method. I said to her "now.. you might think this sounds a little crazy, but i've been tooth-brushing my face" and she replied, "that's actually a great idea, that will help exfoliate, unclogg, etc." so if my derm approves of it then it must be worth a try! So now, the condition of my skin is absolutely fenominal! The tooth-brushing method is really what's making the difference. I even got rid of most of the tough blackheads on my nose! I have no more blemishes on my cheeks... also thanks to the products listed above. But again, my face cant survive now without this face cleaning method. I'd love to see some of you give it a try and let me know how it works out. A little warning though: you don't want to scrub too hard, just massage it around in little circles all over the face with your cleanser already applied. So not too abrasive! And immediately after you are done brushing, your face might be a little red but I'm pretty sure that it's from the increased circulation of blood from the vibration of the toothbrush and possibly the abrasiveness of the bristles but that will obviously go away within about 5 minutes. Ok well, just wanted to share with all of you ladies and gentlemen my beauty secret:) hope it works for you!
Before tooth-brush method: blotchy, uneven, blackheads, pimples, dead/flakey skin, dry skin, clogged pores.
After tooth-brush method: smooth, soft, 99.7% clear skin, brighter, more evenly toned, hardly any redness, 95% of blackheads gone, pores are 10x smaller. |

Hi Shannon123
I am glad that you found a regimen that is working for you - congratulations
I also find the Clarisonic face brush too pricey for me. I use a round white loofah that you can buy at Walmart in the cosmetic/spa section for maybe less than $5 and use it to massage and exfoliate my face 3x a week. I also use my Obagi foaming cleanser with it. Sometimes, I use honey with lemon every now and then when I have more time (I always make sure that I make time to take care of myself)....It gives the same results without the price tag of Clarisonic face brush. After that, while my skin is still wet, I apply my favourite skin-care cream that I buy at EDS. Lately, I've been experimenting on some other products that were suggested by forum members. I am happy that I am a member and I get a lot of good suggestions on this forum. Thank you
Curiously, I may try your suggestion to use an electric toothbrush (though I don't have acne, whiteheads or blackheads). However, I may use a different electric toothbrush for this purpose. I don't want to use the same electric toothbrush for my teeth!
TheresaMary: Regarding the poll on dry brushing... I've been doing this for a while now and makes my body soft. I don't use it on the face though as I already have a regimen for my face per above. Also, I feel the penetration of body lotion is more effective too when dry brushing. |

Hi Shannon123 Tried your suggestion last night and I did not like it very much. I will stick to my usual face regimen using a white loofah. Though the Clarisonic face brush is a little pricey, I think this is a better tool for the face because of the coverage and ease of use compared to the electric toothbrush....
Years ago, I used to have a round face brush from Lancome freebies in a bag with some of their products (I like some of Lancome products). I liked this brush but didn't know where I put it when I packed my things and bought a house (got no clue). Maybe this one is similar to Clarisonic face brush, don't know really but the feel is nice on the face... |

I recommend to use natural beauty products that suits to your body without having any undesirable consequences. Manuka honey is the best product for total skin care. So test it, then trust it. |

Hello JohnLeader I like honey in general for eating (i.e. 1 spoon only per day)... Curiously, are you suggesting to take it like food to eat or apply on the face as a masque or for cleansing with the brush? Because I use honey with lemon (sometimes milk) on my face
every now and then when I have time.... But in general, I use a foaming cleanser AM/PM to clean my face.

I was skeptical about clarisonic too because of the price tag. I was doing ok with a manual skin brush and for a while a walmart version of a rotating brush for the skin until it broke. Finally I splurged and bought a clarisonic mia and honestly... wish I had done it sooner! I never expected to love it this much, honestly! The only downside is that the brush is kinda big to really get deep into the curves of the nose area. Maybe i'll try a tooth brush in these areas. I can't imagine doing the whole face with a toothbrush though, doesn't it take forever?!! |

I put off buying one thinking the $$$ was ridiculous. Then I purchased one after my esthetician suggested it. I love it..have had it for years ...rate it as my number one beauty tool I think it makes your face tighter and skin younger. I think it is the combination of the vibration ..circulation..and how products penetrate better after using it. |

The electric toothbrush sounds like a good idea for the area around the nose (hard to get in the crease). My toothbrush has a "sensitive" head that I don't use for my teeth so I'll give it a go. Thanks for the suggestion! Cheers, Bess |

i use the olay knockoff of the clairsonic. i believe a cheap spinbrush would do the same sort of thing! i'd get a super soft head on any electric toothbrush, though! |
