I hate my jaw. It's too long and drags my face down. It was horrible in high school, but as I aged, it got a little full and less fug, but it's still ugly to me. Is there a procedure to make it smaller, and if so, do you know if there's a lot of downtime?
I *thought* I heard it can be filed down, but I wonder what it involves...
I feel like I have a mini-me Jay Leno chin. Blech! |

Hi Baroness,
I'm facing a similar situation although my jaw is much smaller. I was told over 10 years ago that I needed orthognathic surgery which is where they basically reconstruct your jaw. But, mine is not for cosmetic reasons. I have TMJ and have alot of pain and other symptoms. The surgery would be to correct my bite so there isn't so much pressure on the joints. As I type I'm in the process of trying to find a doctor I fully trust in. In "my" case this is a very long and drawn out process with a long recovery period. I would suggest seeing an orthodontist (& don't stop with one if he tells you there's nothing you can do). It could be that your needs would be much less invasive with less downtime. I've waited much too long. If this is really important to you, then make an appt. today. Hope this helps. |

Seconded to have a consultation with an orthodontist. It may be that there is something going on with your teeth and bite which is making your jaw look big which could be corrected with orthodontic treatment. May be not but worth checking! |
