I hope this is the right spot for this- as nails aren't really skincare. I wanted to know where the little white spots on nails sometimes come from? I have heard maybe lack of zinc- but could be anything .

I always heard it was a lack of calcium. |

I think it's either calcium or protein. I can't remember and don't know if either was right to begin with. I do know that the white spots can actually be caused by trauma to the nail (hitting it, bending, etc) and this is going to be more of a problem if you have a poor diet and weaker nails. |

i think it may have something to do with me being a recently reformed nail-biter (terrible girl), so my nails are still weak. they are only just beginning to grow long- after two years of not biting them. it might take them awhile to get to healthiness |

maddy,
I was a nail biter too!! I have to say that the nailtiques products have done wonders for me. The formula 2 has really strengthened my nails, and the cuticle gel helped keep away all the hangnails and dry skin I had from having my hands in my mouth all the time.
Formula 2 worked well on my moms feeling/splitting nails...
I've used their formula 2, formula 2+, skin/cuticle gel, nail oil and polish remover...and I haven't disliked a one!! |

I believed this can be caused by a zinc, iron or protein deficiency. I suspect taking a multivitamin might alleviate a problem -- if you can call it a problem. |

I use nailtiques, as well. It has worked wonders for my nails. My husband and I bought an 90 year old house three years ago and we are always working on it. I had great nails before we bought the house, but they have been shot ever since. I decided in the past few months to try and get them back in shape. I have been using nailtiques and they look great now.

Hi!
Just another thought. Although persistent white spots on the nail plate can be caused by nutitional deficiences the odd one now and again is more likely to be due to a knock or bang to the cuticle area (this is the area covering the nail matrix - where the nail growth is generated). The newly forming nail is very soft and the white spot is formed when it is damaged rather like scar tissue. So if you are doing a job or pass time that is hard on your hands this may well be the cause. |
