This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find a thread on it. I use .05% retin-A and .1% tarzarotene from ADC (I alternate them - every other night). I have used Retin A before so I know this is the real thing, but I have never used Tazorac before so I have nothing to compare the ADC cream to. For those of you who have used Tazorac before, is this the real deal?
I've been using both for a year and don't know if I'm seeing the results that I should be from using retinoids for so long. Should I drop the tarazotene and just use the Retin A? The Retin-A is drying which is why I ws switching every other day (plus I use Cerave afterward).
Thanks! |

Are you using this to combat acne and after a year of use your acne hasn't improved? Or, you are using it for other purpose? |

I haven't used tazorac so I can't really comment on it. I've only used retin a in a concentration of 0.025 and 0.05. In my experience the 0.025 worked better for me than the 0.05. I did not see any softening in wrinkles but had clearer more radiant skin. I used it for a year and then gave up on it.
There are some people that have used retin a for 30+ years and swear by it. Just for convenience sake I would just choose one of these products and stick with that one. They are both a form of a retinoid and both are approved for the treatment of wrinkles although I thought that tazorac was more suitable for acne (but I might be wrong).
Is your retin a in a cream or a gel? I think the gel might have alcohol and it's a bit drying. Do you wait at least 20 min before you apply CeraVe? What kind of a cleanser do you use?
You are wearing sunscreen in the daytime - correct?
Hopefully someone else with more experience can chime in. |

I use the Retin A and wait 1/2 hour before using Cerave. I also always use a sunscreen (spf 30 broad spectrum). I also just purchased a humidifier which I hope will help skin dryness. My main issue is two line (the only 2 I have) that are from years of smiling. I should mention that I'm 50 years old. |

In my opinion it's the real deal when compared to regular prescription tazorac. However, you should really pick one and not use both as they serve the same function. Personally I prefer retin a as having used one or the other for the past seven or so years. As far as results? I dunno, this is hard to pin down since its a long term drug. I can tell you I look 5-10 years younger than my non retinoid using peers. |

I've started using Retin A exclusively because I find the results are better with Retin A. The reason why I was switching back and forth was because I thought that , since Tazorac is a little gentler than Retin A, it would still give me results, but would be a little gentler overall.
I'm 50, but most people (including my high school students) guess that I'm in my mid 30s. However, that could also be because I am currently on HRT and I think that has made the world of difference for me. Well, that and (don't laugh), the Nuance line that they carry at CVS...love it! |
