I once had a friend who used to put body lotion on all of her skin (except face) every day? She said that doing so keeps skin soft and resilient.

Do you agree with her?

Do you put lotion all over your body (except face) every day? Or, do you only moisturize certain parts of your body?

Yes, of course putting on a moisturizer daily is going to keep your skin hydrated and supple. That's what that product is designed to do...It just isn't necessary for most people unless they have very dry skin or live in an area with insanely dry winters.

I've lived in very arid and also tropical places and always put lotion on head to toe after showering daily. I feel it protects my skin from pollutants and dirt. I just change to a lighter lotion in the summer and creams in the winter. People have commented how silky smooth my skin feels so it must work. Actually, until I saw this post I thought everyone uses lotion!

I use body lotion, but I often just use olive oil in the shower and rinse it off.

I tend to use oils in the bath. Gives me an excuse to soak longer!

I use lotion (CeraVe) on my body most days after a shower. Sometimes when I am short on time, I skip it, but that's rare. The skin on my body is soft and smooth. My face - that's a different story...

Technically body lotion goes on if you are dry, so arms and from the knee down.

I wish I had time to do it every day. Living in the Midwest, it is cold and dry here in the winter.

Yes of course I do, why wouldnt I???

I love the way it softens my skin all over, just as I apply treatments to my face.

One can make a simple body cream so that slathering it on isnt really that expensive. Also, actives can be added to it for extra care. Its a simple luxury.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I never put lotion on my body! I don't like the way it feels afterward. It never seems to completely sink in and then my skin kind of sticks to my clothes. Once or twice a year I use it on my shins if they are itchy from dry skin, but I still don't like the feel. BTW, I live in a very dry area of Canada.

fawnie, what actives do you use, and what's your HG body lotion?

Also, do you think that licorice, mulberry, bearberry, or arbutin would be good additives for body lotions?

I never liked applying lotion to my body but in the past I did apply oils after my shower, before toweling off.

However, for the past few years, I do not apply anything to my body. This coincides with consuming large amounts of raw, organic coconut oil. My skin is not dry anywhere and I live in the desert in Arizona. I might apply a bit of oil after shaving my legs in the summer, but rarely.

I just love raw, organic coconut oil. I remember in the early 1990's when low fat was the rage and I consumed very little fat. Now I consume loads of raw, organic coconut oil, I am still the same weight, I feel great, and my body skin is soft and moisturized.

Periodically, I do a dry scrub and apply coconut oil and then do a steam - what a treat.

I also have consumed high quality fish oil for about 17 years and after upping my intake about 10 years ago for a demanding intellectual job I no longer had cracking of my skin near my fingernails. I attribute that to the increased fish oil intake and believe that it benefitted my skin as well.

This may not be for everybody, but I love it for myself.

I apologise for going slightly off topic, but can I ask Hydrogeogirl how you take the coconut oil. Do you mix it with food?
In the UK yesterday, our daily paper said daily coconut oil had been proven to delay Alzheimers. My husband has an increasing memory problem so I'm very interested in this.
Thanks, Liz

No need to apologize. Though sending a PM might also be a good idea. That's what I usually do. Smile

Ditto on all counts (except I don't live in CAN). Smile

As one of the visitors said, it is not necessary for everyone to moisture all over every day, but it is necessary. Keep in mind our skin is the largest organ of your body and it absorbs everything surrounding you: uv rays, smog, pollution... etc.

Even if you live in a cold zone, snow can burn your face as well, so put on some facial moisturizer to protect your skin, too.

No, I hate lotions and only use them when absolutely necessary. I don't like feeling sticky.

LizK - I love consuming Raw Organic Coconut Oil (ROCO) and it makes me feel great. ROCO is delicious by the spoon, try it, you will be pleasantly surprised (or your husband). I think that you could even put a teaspoon in your coffee and enjoy it.

I cook with it. I lightly sauté many things in it just to help me consume it. I also substitute butter with ROCO, any baking is done with coconut oil and other high quality ingredients, whole grains, with reduced sugar, so I think that it is healthy.

This may not be for everybody, but these are some of the ways that I use ROCO. I just try to consume it on a daily basis.

Tonight, I did a dry brush and slathered ROCO from head to toe before doing a 45 minute steam!

I have been thinking of doing this, I bet my skin would feel amazing. I love using ROCO right after a shower but I have to make sure I have time to let things soak in before I get dressed.

Softskin,

Then, how do you keep your body skin moisturized?

I don't use a lot of body lotion; I used to use olive oil. I recently saw some phlatate free lotion at Walgreens so I might pick that up. Either that or some coconut oil.

I am far too lazy for that. Body is as needed during winter months.
