Hi,
I've read the studies on the use of topical silymarin for sun damage. So I started using the powder I buy in capsules. I mix with water, vitamin C and MSM. I don't know if it has helped with long-term sun damage, but I did find it calmed my skin when burned or just red and seems to reduce sun burn. (And I do wear heavy, physical sunblock, but I'm out all day!).
Anyway, the problem I've found is that the silymarin, being yellowish brown, makes it impossible to use during the day, and it's actually stained my arms and my face to some extent! The other day I noticed a yellowish cast on my arm AFTER I showered and scrubbed the area I had applied the silymarin mixture the night before.
I looked at the bulk actives website, and the silymarin powder they sell appears to be the same color as mine.
How do you use this stuff without discoloring skin/clothes. And I'd really like to use it during the day, as it's supposed to have protective properties.
I know there are some commercial products available but I haven't used them or even seen them in person, but I'm guessing they are not yellow or brown.
Anyone? |

I used it for a long time, like a year or so along with other actives, I think it's over rated... for sun damage vitamin A, in particular retin A is the best, IMO.... |

Did you find some that did not leave a yellow residue on the skin? |

And I use Retin A. But I like that Silymarin is supposed to have a protective effect. I can't use Retin A regularly in the summer as I'm in the sun too much. Even with loads of physical sunscreen and a hat, retin A makes me too sensitive and increases my melasma. |

what % are you trying to use it? If use it at .5 to 1%, it shouldn't be staining.... is your sylimarin form skinactives or bulksactives? if so, it's very potent n u dont need a lot of it.... |

No. As I said in my OP, I use the powder from a capsule. I didn't want to order from those places if it was also yellow, as it appears to be in their pictures of the substance. |
