Hi there, I've had bad acne in the past and I had used (and still) using Benzoyl Peroxide to get rid of it. Now I'm mostly acne free but my skin is pretty much damaged.
I first thought It was Rosacea but my esthetician said it was a reaction due to dehydrated skin (I always moisturized once/twice daily with Neutrogena oil-free).
It's simply not healing and I don't really know what to do, Laser? Night Cream?
I'm slowly switching from Benzoyl Peroxide to Differin, I already tried to stop every harsh chemical but my acne came back quickly with vengeance.
Anybody has already dealed with that and know how to repair the skin barrier?
I can't post the full link since I'm new member,

That's why I've always stayed away from BP because of the damage and aging effects, also I've read that it contributes to the cycle of acne by irritating and drying the skin out. I have used it as a spot treatment and it really works, but didn't sound like a good long term solution.
You shouldn't use oil-free products because they usually contain silicones which are occlusive, these kind of products in themselves do not actually moisturize the skin, they only work by trapping moisture in the skin by creating a seal. Which isn't much help if there's little moisture in the skin to begin with. It's best to stay away from occlusive ingredients when you're dealing with dryness and inflamed skin because they create heat in the skin. Heat will just make it more dry and red.
Skin can only heal itself when it's hydrated, you're skin needs water, so using a hydrosol or a hydrating serum then applying a moisturizer to prevent evaporation over it is a good way to do that. |

Agree....:Nonie's sites should be helpful to you. I use CP's - have for years.
Dr.Pickart is against BP and hyaluronic acid if memory serves. BP cause underlying destruction that need to be corrected later. I'd establish a new protocal. The correct oils used on oily skin work great for hydration (I have oily skin and use a combo of jojoba and almond oil for cleansing, even though it sounds counterintuitive.
Good luck - hope you'll get back to read these posts. |
