I decided to search out feminine cleansers and found myself in an Internet boondoggle of information. Found all manner of postings on how cleansers for your 'private area' should be a low pH so as not to upset the flora balance which can lead to infections, saw mentions of so-called "natural" products which actually contain some pretty toxic preservatives, and noticed that many of these product lines are big on fragrances which seems to me should be counter-indicated for cleansing such a delicate area, and it looks like they all contain sulphates.
I don't have any specific issues 'down there' but occasionally over the years have experienced itching and mild burning when using certain products. I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on or a recommendation for a good product that is a safe, proper pH, non-irritating cleanser? |

I was just thinking about that Jax. I use Summer's Eve feminine wash, I've also used the Vagisil brand. Back home we had the Lactacyd brand. I was going to do a search for more "natural" products since I am starting to switch my other skin care products to sulfate free and PABA free stuff. |

hi guys,
when i was a teenager and mom took me to the gyno to get me all prepared for woman hood/caring for self/breast examination... the gyno recommended dove soap bar. he said it was gentle and that i should be careful with the products i'm using.
i do agree about natural products. for natural products to be preserved and not to go rancid a few days later, some kind of preservative has to be added. and thus leading it to be not 'natural'. i know many members are going all natural due to fear of what these chemicals will entail and the consequences. i myself am torn because from what i have discussed with my 'academic' friends. long story and its not my field and am sure if i wrote/or tried to explain it, i would make a fool of myself.
i really wish there was a member here that is a chemist.. preferable of organic chemistry in life sciences ... (chemicals organic and inorganic effecting the human body).
in the meantime, i'm using products that work for me, and trying to replace products with more 'natural' products.
hope you find something that works for ya! |

honestly, use NOTHING there. only water. your feminine area is its own ecosystem and knows how to clean and regulate itself. the moment you use anything down there, including gentle soap, you are throwing that ecosystem out of whack. this advice was given me by a renowned gynocologist.

Avalange - I think you are right on the money! After all the on-line reading I did, one link to another and another (ugh!), I started to think plain water is the best option. Apparently bar soap is so very alkaline it can set up a host environment for bacteria - maybe Dove is lower on the pH scale because I know that lots of derms recommend it, at least for the face.
I guess the French knew what they were doing when they invented the bidet. |
