Hi everyone:
I've never posted here but I've read a lot and have gotten some genius tips from this board -- most recently the tanaka facial massage which I could tell made a difference the first time I tried it 
But at the moment I am writing about my poor aunt. She is on serious steroids for rheumatoid arthritis and because of this her face is swollen past recognition. I don't mind it but I feel so bad for her because she obviously feels so self conscious. We're not beauty queens in our family but we do have nice bone structure and as she is getting older ( 70's) it's something I know she was proud of.
Has anyone been through this and done something that mitigated the effects? Would anything I've got -- facial massage, facercise, microcurrent -- help at all?

Hi Crosswind and welcome to EDS. The tanaka massage or other facial massage and microcurrent can all help with lymph drainage. Search online for YouTube video for lymph drainage. I would be careful with your aunts skin though. Steriods can thin the skin along with being older. |

I was thinking along the same lines -- some of the puffiness is due to fat buy some has to be lymph so she might see some improvement.
Steroids thin the skin as well.
I feel so bad for her -- thanks for your advice |

The only thing I can think of for your lovely auntie is to perhaps lower the dosage of her medication. Maybe with the help of her doctor they can find a lower dose that will reduce the "full face" effect but also help her with her arthritis.
I wish your aunt the best of luck. My mom suffers with the same problem but she doesn't want to take steroids. She does have a lot of pain though. It's hard to see loved ones suffer. |
