Is there some synergistic action going on when these three actives are applied at the same time?
Reason I ask is that I would have a much easier time applying ascorbic acid + water at, say, 7pm then wait till 11pm and apply an oil that contains vitamin E and other goodies (like retinyl palmitate).
Is it important to apply vit C and vit E at the same time to get the maximum effect? Or would spacing those two out a few hours have the same effect?
Would be much easier for me to do them spaced apart.
As I understand it, the ferulic acid is only there to stabilize the vitamin C? I don't mind making a new batch of vit C + water every week.
Hope someone can clear this up for me.
Thanks. |

All the studies done on the cef combo have been done by applying all 3 together at the same time. If you wanted to be on the safe side, I'd try to get all three together. But there's a theory that vitamin C stays active in the skin for at least a day (up to 72hours for some people, apparently) after it is absorbed, so there's that too. Plus you're applying them a few hours apart instead of opposite ends of the day. So you'll probably be safe. It's better than just using c alone, I know that.
The ferulic acid is there for two reasons. One is to help stabilize the C in an aqueous solution, and it also doubles the uv protectiveness of c & e together. I don't know if the photoprotectiveness extends to night time only usage, but I apply my c during the evening and it seems to help quite a bit.
The ssc doc proposed a theory that vitamin c in water with no other ingredients might dry and "crust" on top of the skin without maximum absorption. He suggested adding at least glycerin to the water if nothing else. It's something to consider. hth! |

Thank you.
Seems I'm safe with applying C and E spaced apart by a few hours, then.
As for the crusting of the C, I don't experience it crusting on my skin.
But then I mix the C with MSM, EGCG and a bit of DMSO as well. The DMSO might be what's stopping the C from crusting, as it helps to penetrate.
