I am going to make my own sunscreen powder to use over my European sunscreens for added protection and shine control.
Here's what I am planning to use:
- zinc oxide (micronized, coated) for UVA/UVB (I'll strive for about 25%)
- pearl powder for skin lightening
- yellow kaolin clay for shine control
- iron oxide for natural color
What do you think about this mixture of ingredients? I am particularly wondering if it's a good idea (safe?) to use pearl powder in sunscreen (I think most people use it at night?) - I hope it won't create a negative reaction on the skin when exposed to the sun. Same with kaolin clay.
Any thoughts? ![hmm](images/smiles/017.gif) |

I've never found anything negative in literature about using these during the day. Knock yourself out! This looks like it might be a little draggy depending on how much pearl powder you add to it. If you're using a very smooth, good quality zinc it'll be fine I bet.
I've had several rl & online buddies who swear pearl powder does good things when used in make up and sunscreen. I've never tried it myself, but the theory is that some of the amino acids can come free and be absorbed. |
