I just joined the forum today, but did plenty of reading before joining, and you ladies are all so knowledgeable! I hope you can help me.
I turned 25 recently and decided it’s high time to start taking better care of my skin. I’m a longtime member of MUA and got some good advice, but the skincare board can be slow so I thought I’d join here. Basically, I’d like to get thoughts on my current regimen, and suggestions for improvement.
Previously, I had been washing my face with Dove beauty bar in the mornings, and applying Olay Complete SPF 15 before applying my BareMinerals foundation. That’s it. I never removed my makeup at night and didn’t use anything else.
Thanks to MUA, I have been following this regimen for the past few months:
AM
Cleanser: Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser, Sensitive Skin
AOX Serum: NuFountain Fresh Cosmetics C20, 20% Vitamin C Serum
Sunscreen: La Roche Posay Anthelios 40 SPF 40 Sunscreen Cream
PM
Cleanser: Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser, Sensitive Skin
Retinol Serum: Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Anti-Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle Serum
As I said, I’m 25 with noticeable wrinkles on my forehead, and fine lines starting to form around my eyes. I have normal skin--no sensitivity to anything I’ve tried yet, and not too oily or dry--if I wash my face and don’t put anything on, it doesn’t feel tight or slick later on.
I work an office job; my desk has no windows anywhere near it (I know UVA & UVB rays penetrate glass). I don’t spend too much time in the sun during the day; I do walk around/sit outside during lunchtime at work (I try to find shade when doing so), and after work (after 6PM), I walk my dog around my neighborhood. I do frequent the beach on weekends, but I’ll bring that up in a later post because I use different products.
I know this post is crazy long, but I wanted to get as much information out as possible so anyone reading can have enough information to give good advice. Thank you so much, I’m looking forward to being an active member here!

You're 25. Congrats on having young skin with zero issues to deal with. Using a good sun screen as you are doing is very sensible.
Vitamin c is a nice antioxidant to use, also.
Good choices!
If I were you I'd continue with what you are doing and come back here in 20 or 25 years when your regimen might need a bit of tweaking. |

I agree. I think you've started a touch earlier than I'd normally recommend, but it sounds like you're being gentle enough, so no red flags.
Please don't be tempted to indulge in more extreme peels or other treatments while your skin is balanced and healthy like this!
One thing I'd suggest is perhaps not using the vit c or retinol every day. I've seen great success in giving my skin a break, and not complicating things with multiple products on the same day. I've read that vit c stays in the system for up to 72 hours, and after the first year we can pull back on tretinoin etc from every day to twice a week. Maybe alternate them, every other day.
And there are 2 schools of thought - one that vit c is better used in the morning, the other at night. I switch it up now. |
_________________ Olive, normal/oily skin. Using rinse-off ocm, Vit C, Tretinoin since Nov/10, GHK since Feb/12, Niacinamide & glucosamine, alternating, & now skipping nights! Concerns include oiliness, hyperpigmentation from occasional zits, 11's & nasolabial folds. |
