Tretinoin on face and Retinol on eye area. Is it okay?

Hi!

I have been reading on google about retinol and tretinoin and I think from what I've read, these two shouldn't be used together.

I'm using the Obagi Nuderm system. And at night time I apply the Blender+Tretinoin on my face.

I don't want to put the Tretinoin on my eye area, I feel that it is too strong and might irritate my eyes.. So I've been looking for an eye cream (which could be milder and are meant for the eye area) with tretinoin but I couldn't find one. Mostly they are retinols. So I thought of just going with retinol for my eyes.

I was wondering if it's okay to use a Retinol eye cream or eye serum, if I am using Tretinoin on the rest of my face?

Its not so much that they shouldn't be used together, but more a question of why would you want to - because in essence both are doing similar things – which is encouraging the cells to turn over faster. Retinol is weaker in strength usually than RetinA so for sensitive skins etc its often a great place to start with. With the eye area, you can use Retin A there but it is as you say an area that can show signs of stress easily and so some people are put off, but you can easily use retinol there if you wish to.

I would never put Retin A on the eyelids or right up to the eye. It can leach in to the eye and you could develop dry eye and other eye issues.

Well I’ve done it for the past 30 years. Of course you wouldn’t put it in a runny liquidy format into the eye itself, but lightly cover the lids, etc isn’t a problem. I’ve even heard it been suggested it can help to regrow lashes somewhere. Obviously though who ever prescribes your Retin A you should check with.

Here is what my plastic surgeon who started me on this product 15 years ago said - Use it as close to the eye as you can, but DO NO GET IT IN THE EYE. He recommended it on eyelids, everything, but with a very careful application.
