The one thing that I don't understand about vitamin C serums is why so many of them come in clear bottles? I've seen a few packaged in dark-colored bottles--yet such bottles are almost always see-through.
Doesn't light affect the product's potency? Doesn't it cause oxidation? Please advise me.
Even Paula's Choice is like this, which intrigues me:

I agree-also doesnt make sense to me. Anyone have any thoughts?
Ive hear of vitamin c capsules-so you only need to open one at a time and keeps your vit c for longer, that makes alot of sense. All the companies should look into doing that |

Well,
I've tried tons of samples of vitamin C serums and creams...I love trying samples of well...almost anything- LOL.
But so far for me the only vitamin C product I saw a difference with is Neostrata 10% vitamin C "capsules".
-they package the cream/serum in little capsules you twist open. They are airtight till you use them.
I bought their 20% vitamin C that comes in a airtight bottle and it works well, but too strong for me.
I also tried the Body Shop imitation vitamin C capsules that are cheaper and look just like the Neostrata ones and they did not do much for me.
Well, thwy were ok, only paid $10 for them! |

Well I suspect part of the reason is to encourage you to buy it more regularly. Both light and heat do oxidise Vit C, and so maybe its a clever part of the manufacturers. It might be worthwhile posing that question to them directly.
Not all Vit C come in that packaging though. I use Environ Vit C which comes in an plastic squeezy tube, which protects the ingredients from the light and is awesome. Just putting this out there! |

The PC one is a tinted bottle and has a UV coating. |

Yep ThemPC is in a glass tinted bottle with Uv coating.
I keep my serum with C vit in a drawer to avoid the light even if the one I have is in a dark tinted class. |

Those dark bottles are actually made to extend the life of light senstive contents. And the amber glass is not the only one that can do that. Explains it here a bit:

Not sure whether it has much/any influence on the stability of vit C, but sometimes I notice that cheaper brands use lighter shade of amber and not-so-well-made glass. Just not as pretty as the darker seamless amber glass. |

What I do personally with the vitamin C serum I use is to place the bottle into a much larger opaque pill bottle (from some nutritional supplement that I have used) and fill it with very cold water. That keeps the vitamin C in the dark AND cool. The stuff I use is recommended to keep extra bottles in the refrigerator; that's where I got the idea that it should be kept cool. Here is what I use:

Another option is to put it in the fridge--preferably away from the light. |

Some people also put it in the fridge. |
The reason I don't is because I keep it in the shower and the shower and my fridge are on opposite ends of the house and I don't want to run to the fridge twice per day for my Vitamin C serum. But keeping it in the fridge will keep it dark AND cool, so that's a good thing to do. |
