I have not, thank God. I take mega doses of vitamin C and MSM for brown spots (works, but slooooooooooow). And my hair is already thin enough!
But I have read of the hair loss in some women who take it.
There are other things that can cause hair loss - too much zinc, for example.
Maybe cut your dose of MSM in half, or stop taking it all together for a week or two? Then if the hair loss stops you'll know it was the MSM. |

sometimes when something stimulate the hair to grow, the existing non growing hair is shed to be replaced by new hair in the growing stage of the hair cycle.... |

OP ,because i care to not hurt yourself
i tell you msm is an inorganic stuff with bioavailability of 20% and ascorbic acid(not real vitamic c) a toxic subtance that reduces lifespan and creates acidic enviroment in the body.
Just drink your orange juice or whatever fruit juice rich in vitamin c.You will need actually to drink less due to the supper bioavailability of vitamin c in food-fruit form than to take grams of somehting that sometimes is being manufactured with GMO corn.
Food form also contains the co-factors.Thats the difference between foods that contain life(vitamins with co factors) and toxic supplements that just create mineral imbalance.
Sulphur based amino acids you can get from garlic ,brazil nuts and more if you do a healthy research, |

Panos, why do you say MSM is inorganic when it is a compound found in fruits, veggies and animals?
Mind you, I am one of those who does not believe supplements are useless, while you do, so maybe that is where you are coming from with "inorganic". I have seen carotenoids and flavanoids complex supplements turn my relatives lives around after they had been given a grim prognosis. BTW both were farmers who ate an organic diet of food they grew and bred...so that they ended up gravely ill had nothing to do with a bad lifestyle. When doctors gave up on them, they added the supplements to their otherwise healthy diets and lived beyond their so called "death sentence". One of them felt so well after adding the supplements that she stopped taking them and gave them to the other. Her health took a downward turn and by the time the ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital, it was too late. My great aunt who was the other relative is still alive and doing well. She religiously takes her antioxidant supplements. But it isn't just their story that has made me a believer. I have been on supplements since early nineties and I have seen the difference they have made to my life.
As for MSM, when I used it in the past, it made my nails very strong and white. I never noticed any other change but since it is found in food and I love food...I probably already had plenty of it in my body for the extra I was taking to make a noticeable difference. I did take it in orange juice since it works well with vitamin C and I found the crystals bitter in any other drink. But the effect on my nails was within days of taking the supplement so as far as bioavailability is concerned, it must depend on the brand one is taking. Optimsm and Lignusil (sp?) never failed me.
I am not too crazy about taking MSM since I started seeing reviews of people getting bigger boobs from taking it. Never bothered to find out if there was any truth to that but I dare not risk growing melons; lawd knows I'd probably tip over if my boobs got any bigger! Besides, like I said, except for strong nails which I have now, I didn't really think I needed the supplementation.
Perhaps the apparent increased hair shedding from taking MSM is due to the hair growth cycle being sped up. So strands are reaching the end of their growth cycle and hence the shedding stage quicker and catching up with those that were already there...so it seems like you lose more hair all at once. But over time, things may settle down. As long as your hair isn't thinning, then I wouldn't worry too much. Up to 100 strands shed per day is normal. If you have long hair, 100 strands would form a big ball of hair compared to what you'd get with short hair...so it can seem scary. And if you don't manipulate your hair much, then the shed hair from past days stays caught in your mane till the day you do manipulate your hair when you lose several days' worth of shed hair that was caught within the other strands.
Also, we tend to notice things that may have always been that way but oblivious to us, when we start to pay attention. If you take MSM to improve your hair or your skin, you tend to be more keenly attentive to changes and so what may have been the norm becomes magnified and you see it with a new perspective.
I have read of people try to stop shedding. But shedding, except where excessive or accompanied by a tender or itching scalp and thinning, is really a normal part of hair growth. |

Funny you say that. The past week my boobs were hurting and appeared to look perkier. The only thing different is that I've been taking supplements to help clear up my acne and MSM is one of these supplements |
