Heyhey,
I just got my new JI brush! SSSOOO SOFT!
What is the best way to care for brushes? How often and how should I clean them?
I always used water but my old brushes all end up really messed up, all the fibery thingies get stuck together and get wiery

A little baby shampoo swirl it about a bit with water in the palm of you hand and rinse leaving to air dry naturally I leave mine over the edge of the windowsill.
Think it was from the Bobbi Brown book

I love her books so full of common sense and you can look better with less time.
I have both her books and would recommend to anyone in fact I do very regularly. I am currently retraining in Beauty Therapy and even my lecturers use her books for reference. |

I wash mine once a week and I use it every day. Just use baby shampoo or any other gentle shampoo but make sure that you do not get any water in the ferrule of the brush. I.e. do not pour water into the bristles, always point the brush downwards and let water run over it that way. Getting water into the ferrule may loosen the glue that holds the bristles together, meaning that your brush will start to shed. When washing the bristles, just gently massage the shampoo down the bristles, nothing too harsh. |

I use my shampoo to wash my brushes. As Mabsy, I just wash the brush itself. After rinsed I hand dry, rubbing gently with a towel. I lay them on a clean towel for the rest of the day to completely dry. I probably wash my brushes once a month as I don't use them daily to apply makeup. Buying good quality brushes pay off as they last forever if you take good care of them. I have Jane Iredale brushes. |

I use my facial cleanser...as long as it's a gentle one it'll do the job without harming the brushes |

Bobbi Brown has her own brush cleaner as part of her line. It's really minty, the brushes feel really soft afterwards, and so far I'm going into my second year and I'm still on my first tube!! I also only clean my JI brushes every three weeks or so, but I keep them in a brush bag, don't share them, and try not to mix products too much. I'd highly recommend it... I've never used baby shampoo, although friends of mine do, so I'm sure you can't lose either way. Just make sure you don't clean them with anything that has alcohol, as it can dry them out (ie MAC's brush cleaner.) |

I use Smashbox Brush Cleaner which comes in a spray bottle so you just spray on and wipe off with a tissue. I also sometimes use Sephora Make Up Brush Cleansing Wipes. You just rub the brush across the wipe until there is no makeup residue. Both work well! |

I was using Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild Organic Liquid Soap with success. However I recently invested in better brushes including a lovely Chantecaille face brush, so I was compelled to buy Trish McEvoy's Brush Bath, $14 for 4oz. A teeny tiny dab of the gel goes a long way and it's minty, too. It even gets my white-haired Chanel brush clean.
The name is a bit misleading though, as you would never drop a brush into a tub of water. |
