So a little about me. I am a fair skinned individual, 36 years old, no real sagging but some wrinkles under my eyes. Huge concern for me is that on my face I have what I call a permanent looking tan with age spots/freckles. My neck is perfect with no sun damage. I believe my sun damage was caused by repeated medium strength peels and maybe not enough sun protection. I have been battling now for over 9 years to try to correct the damage with more peels, hydroquinone, vit c serums, retin-a, physical sunscreens, etc. Nothing has really worked for me.
So on the 16th I will be undergoing the BBl photofacial at my plastic surgeons office (performed by a nurse)
I am excited and really nervous. Not sure what to expect.... Any one who can review????
I will post pics!! |

I have had many IPLS and the EXCEL Cutera (IPL on steroids, haha) but I have never heard of this one.
Cannot wait to hear!
I always bruise and swell but arnica and bromeliane (pineapple extract) helps.
Good luck! |

it will probably take more than 1 appointment so don't be surprised if the sun damage doesn't clear in one visit.
It feels like a hot rubber band snap! Stings a little but worth it. |

I had the treatment done last Thursday. It really didn't hurt and went fairly quickly. I have been told I will probably need 3 treatments. The swelling I had went down almost immediately and now it kinda looks like I have been in a fight or road rash on my face. My cheeks look more like coffee grains but my forehead looks more like patches of bruises. The nurse told me before the ipl treatment she was somewhat concerned with how dark my forehead looked and that I may see some stripping on it but that it could be fixed after a second treatment. I will start treating my skin with Kojic acid starting tomorrow and hopefully see some decent results!!!! |

My hubby had striping on his first round but the second one did take care of it. He has rosacea and the perpetual golfer tan.
Glad you recovered so nicely! |

I think IPL is a great laser if you have a good tech doing it. It is probably the best treatment for melisma and age spots. The only bummer for me is that I swell sooooo bad! |

Feeling a little CONCERNED:(
It has now been 7 days since first treatment.
My nurse told before treatment that because my forehead was quite dark there was a possible chance of striping but that a second treatment would take care of that. I still have some flakies however there were large portions on my forehead that became very dark, started flaking and now has fresh pink skin underneath while the rest of my forehead still has the perpetual golfer tan that I had before treatment. I am concerned this could be hypopigmentation??? Is this kinda normal? I don't have the striping but about 4-5 quarter sized pink fresh skin. Hope this makes sense??? I a little nervous. |

The pigment doesn't lay evenly in your skin so it makes sense that the IPL doesn't pull the pigment out evenly. Your second treatment should make a big difference. I would suggest you tell your laser the tech to be conservative. Having to do 3 treatments at lower settings is better than 2 high powered treatments. |

I am going to a plastic surgeons practice and a nurse performs the treatment on me. She told me she has been doing the IPL treatments for 7 years now. |

So here are some pictures taken a couple weeks after my 1st IPl treatment. You can see how my forehead looks. Hopefully my 2nd treatment will correct this!!
My skin is quite terrible with large pores, scarring, blotchiness etc but hopefully the ipl will make it more even toned. If not I may go for a real strong laser. Will take more pics after I heal from my second treatment.[IMG][[URL=http://s1318.photobucket.com/user/kikogodzilla/media/IMG_0919_zpsbf23ef42.jpg.html]

Do you think your forehead looks better? I would say you are on your way to clearing the brown pigment. Adding retin-a and hydraquinone would help too.
me
As for the scaring, doing a Pixel would help but there is significant downtime. I am now a big fan of the skinpen/dermapen/dermaroller and think that would help a lot. Just be patient! |

I think if by the 2nd treatment the Ipl evens its all out I would be very happy. Right now its very uneven. I do like that I can see some of my normal skin color once again. I got real tired of my chronic tan. I will take pics after my next treatment.
What made you a big fan of the dermapen etc?
Have you seen results from that type of treatment?
Thanks Bethany for the info! |

You have to be very careful about not overscrubbing skin or pulling dry patches off or you can get discoloration. |

2 treatments now with the 3rd one coming up and at first I thought I was getting some good results but as of today I am no longer thinking that. My sun damage according to my derm is on the superficial layer and not down deep so I thought the BBL IPL treatment would be effective.
I may cancel the 3rd treatment and save my $ and go ahead with the Obagi nuderm starting this fall. After that if I have any stubborn pigmentation left over I may preceed with another IPL.
I think this might the right path for me at this point.... Any advice? |

NuDerm can be effective, but it can also be BRUTAL.
There are actually multiple Nuderm protocols, so I would make sure that you pick the one that works best for you while minimizing the torture.

thanks Bethany
I know the Obagi is going to be very Brutal however nothing else is really working for me so I am just gonna go for it. Cant do it right now because the uv index is way too high and I don't want to cause more damage but will start this fall when things start to cool off!
Not sure what I will do when I hit the maintenance phase as I don't really want to use HQ longterm but I will deal with that when I get there:)
The IPl has treated some spots by lightening them but it really didn't lighten my skin tone back to its normal shade. |

Was any follow up care/tips provided after your treatments?
Moisturizer, sunscreen, etc.? |

Pre-treatment using HQ
After treatment using Kojic acid.
I faithfully use a good sunscreen with zinc at 55 spf. |

I would do a 3rd treatment (if you can) and then try Obagi. Or a 3rd IPL and then a serious chemical peel. Then Obagi. |
