Hey all,
I’m trying to get a basic skincare regimen together and could really use some help. My skin is sensitive/oily, with very mild acne and mild seb derm on my forehead. The acne usually appears as rash-like breakouts of small whiteheads and clogged pores on my forehead. I had moderate acne when I was younger, a couple rounds of Accutane cleared things up, and I'm not ready to go down the topicals road again.
I’ve been using Cetaphil RestoraDerm wash and CeraVe lotion 2x daily, with OK results. The main issue is the oiliness. I’ve tried several moisturizers by Cetaphil and Neutrogena with no luck on resolving the oiliness. I’m usually pretty shiny by lunchtime. A derm prescribed ketoconazole and sulphur washes for the seb derm, but both were super drying so I quit using them – hasn’t made a big impact on the mild seb derm either way.
I’d love to get some input from this group – wash/moisturizer recommendations, how often to wash, how often to exfoliate. I’d like to keep things as simple as possible in the beginning to I can take a scientific approach to adding/removing products in the future. I’m a 25 y/o male, if that makes a difference.
Thanks very much in advance!

I am a male too.And i only use Oil cleansing method at night(castor oil-evoo) and then rinse with warm water and soap.
Maybe i put a mask of avocado and evoo once in a while.
Sometimes when weather gets dark i will do a roller. Also diluted lemon juice and pineapple rubbed on the face to exfoliate.
Dont forget to drink fruit and maybe vegetable juice(if you can handle it without vomiting!!!!).
Chemicals?No i do not use them. |

My proposal is to strengthen the skin's moisture, with a reasonable diet. Do not eat too much spicy food. |

Hi Sammy
Well at 25 years, your focus should be on first and foremost prevention rather than cure. Believe me if you do that now you will have such an easier time later on. Now with sensitive but oily skin, you may indeed want to try the oil cleansing method for a while. Don’t be surprised if at first though you get more of a break out – this will be the oils loosening and removing trapped dirt and oils within your pores, and you can use a soap after doing it to make sure your skin is really clean and free from oil.
Now Accutane works for some, but not for others, so it sounds like it worked for you which is great.
Cetaphil and CeraVe lotion are good products. However the Cetaphil you might forego why you try out the oil cleansing method. The other thing is that if oil is an issue, then it may be worthwhile looking at your diet too. I’ve heard others say that to similar people with your problem, but haven’t a clue but it may mean something to someone.
With how often to wish, I would say once in the morning (and you probably do this when you shave right) and once at night before you apply your evening topicals. At 25 one thing you will benefit from doing now is introducing a Vit C serum into your routine, and you can make this yourself and will find receipes in the DIY section. |
