Maybe I'm just getting spring-time-antsy b/c we're expecting yet more snow here in New Hampshire. Ughhhh!!!! I am done with winter, done I tell you!
I have visited sunless.com which really does offer a lot of info on sunless tanners, but what do you all use?
Different one for the face, or no?
When I've self-tanned in teh past, I tend to get a yellowish color, which normally when I used to sunbathe, I'd burn first, then turn a brownish-reddish, not yellow, so I'd like something more bronzy (but not orange, yikes!)
Also, do you use a darker makeup than you normally would in the winter if you self tan, or do you not use a foundation at all in the summer? I think I may need to use something b/c I do have sun damage that I like to cover up - maybe a good bronzer or a tinted moisturizer that would offer a pretty glow, would do the trick....any recs. as to who makes good ones of those too?
The next town over from me just got a tanning spray booth in their salon. I wonder how often you'd have to go to keep it up and how well those work as well.
Questions, many today. But I am feeling so pasty and ghosty, I need to look forward to some healthy color.
Thx.! Maria |

Also forgot to add - if there's any good drugstore self-tanners.
I've heard good reviews about Loreal.
Thx!! Maria |

I've been using the St. Tropez self tanning mousse for almost 2 years now, and I love the stuff! It's so easy to use (I wear latex gloves while applying it so my palms don't turn color). I just make sure my skin is super moisturized before I apply it (even though they say only to moisturize dry areas, i do my whole body to prevent streaks). There's about 10 people I know now that use it after seeing my results. It's nice to be able to have a nice natural looking tan all year w/out having to go fry your skin!
Also, during the summertime I do the Mystic Tan (you stand in a booth, and your body gets sprayed with the solution all at one time like a car wash ) At first, it was a bit streaky/patchy, but after a few times you get better at it & now I don't get any streaks! It's convenient because it only takes a few seconds to have your whole body done, but it's a bit pricey, so I stick w/ the St Tropez for the winter time. |

Oops I guess I didn't really answer your questions sorry! Yes, I do use the self-tanner on my face, haven't had any problems breakout wise (probably because it's a mousse & water based). However, try to avoid blemishes already on the face, because it can tan a pimple too! If I get some on one, or I'm just feeling too lazy to work around it, I just rub a treatment/zit zapping cream on it afterwards and that prevents it from turning brown.
When i do the Mystic Tan, I would go once a week, and I do the "double spray" where they spray you twice. My tans start to fade after 4 or 5 days, but I am not very good at moisturizing my body either, and I know the more you moisturzie the longer it lasts (I believe 7 to 10 days). It can be expensive, but the place I go to has some good deals, I can buy 10 tans for $175 USD, which basically keeps me dark all summer long!!
Whichever way I choose to tan, I definately still use foundation, you just have to make sure it matches your "tan" skincolor, otherwise it will look unnatural. I use Glominerals liquid foundation in beige that works pretty well. |

I’ve tried so many self-tanners over the years that I can’t even remember the names of all the brands! But, in order of preference, my current faves are (I’ve got a fair-skinned, ‘peaches and cream’ complexion:
• Savage Bronzer (available at Sally’s Beauty Supply) - my current holy grail self-tanner
• Decleor Self-tanning Hydrating Emulsion
• Clarins Sheer Bronze Tinted Self-Tanner for Legs
• Lancome’s Flash Bronzer for Legs
• Tan Towel (deep/dark formula)
BTW, they have new DIY self-tanning airbrush kits available on QVC and HSN. I haven’t tried them, but supposedly they’re the cat’s meow when it comes to creating the ultimate believable fake tan at home.... |

I have only ever used Tan Towels and really liked this method of self tanning. All you do is wipe, wipe and wipe. Results are such an even looking natural tan (it goes with your own skin's chemistry),& does not stain clothing. Great for the face as well. As for tanning booths, I just don't agree with any method that could burn your skin. I would think if you wanted to use this, you would still have to use a uva/uvb protectant. |

Has anybody ever used “Elemis Total Glow Self Tanning Cream”? I think its only available on the UK, but the reviews on MUA indicate its ideal for those with super pale skin (i.e.: redheads). That’s one of the things that makes me leery of most self-tanners – I just want a kiss of color, to take the edge off my fish-belly white skin, but most fakebakes make me way too dark to really look natural (except for the ones I mentioned above!).... |
