Someone I know, but not well, got filler in her lips. Have no idea what kind but I swear that for the past week her lips seem to be getting fuller each day. You can barely see her teeth when she speaks. Is there something new on the market that would cause that? I'm worried her lips might explode and make a mess. Laughing

I think I remember reading a claim -- back when silicone lip injections were all the rage -- that some physical implants create more collagen as time goes on, but it could just be inflammation/scar tissue, too. I don't think uncontrolled, unending collagen growth in the lips would be a good thing!

I have Juvederm in mine, and never had that happen. If anything, they shrink as the swelling recedes.

Could she also be using some lip plumping product, or recently gone back for a touch up?

Or maybe the poor girl is experiencing an allergic reaction - happens rarely, but it can happen.

Interestingly enough, this woman's friend got silicone in her lips decades ago and they kept getting bigger. In the last year or so she kept getting a blister where maybe the silicone was oozing out or something. I only met her a few times and I could never look her in the face unless I kept repeating "Look at her eyes, her eyes." She has money so I don't understand why she doesn't get them fixed. Wasn't the reason Lisa Rinna's lips kept getting bigger due to silicone? Then she had them slightly reduced via surgery. At least with Juvederm and Restylane fillers, they can inject an enzyme to almost instantly dissolve the stuff.

I actually have silicon in my lips. The trick is to go with "less is more" and have the injections using a microdroplet needle and someone understanding the method to use this needle. And, of course, a very good injector. Also one has to use medical grade silicon 1000.

I've had the silicon for 10 years with no problems. Large lips look horrible to me. I don't even like Anjelina Jolie's lips but that's just me. So I'm happy with smaller lips that fit my face and I've had no complications. It looks totally natural too.

My sister does as well. She did have some nodules develop a couple of times right after the injections, and I think they injected them with cortisone and they quickly went away. But as with you, her lips have not continued to grow since it was injected very sparingly.

I personally wouldn't risk it when there are so many other, safer alternatives. Very, very few doctors know how to inject silicone. The only permanent solution that I would opt for is surgery.

Personally, when ever I've seen or heard about problems with silicon in lips it's usually because the person wanted too much injected at one time. Of course it's not 100% of the time but "lip greed" is a little contagious these days.

The amount injected should be so tiny that if it was in a teaspoon you would hardly be able to see it. What happens and what gives the plumpness is the body's natural collagen encircling the silicon as a foreign object. Some people call it "fluffing". This takes a couple of months to do and my doctor, who is rather conservative with things, wanted me to wait 4 months for another round. I waited 6 months then had a tiny bit more. So really the plumpness is ones own collagen and oddly enough it's the most natural looking when injected correctly and my doctor has such a precise technique.

I had lip injections using other products but it gets expensive after a while because they don't last and I got tired of spending the money.

True, it's not for everyone but I took a year to do my homework before I committed to it.

Another safe alternative is fat injections. It takes time because half the fat will be reabsorbed so you need to top up but then once it's there, it pretty much stays. Bonus is that they take fat away from where you don't want it!

You need a doctor who is experienced in doing it, which few are these days because the stuff they buy in vials is quicker and easier.

Fat injections sound so good - they are after all your own tissue. However, they are expensive, and it IS eventually absorbed. Been there. Twice. And my doctor is very experienced and I think a genius in cosmetic surgery.

After that disappointment I changed to hyaluronic acid filler which lasts a year or more, less invasive and less expensive.

These days I am experimenting with facial exercise and I am very pleased, it has been a year and I definitely do not need a top off, but time will tell. And of course it is the least expensive of all!

I've had resty in mine and they swelled to begin with but this subsided pretty quickly. I suggest she has a chat with her doc to make sure everything is cool.

Well, if your lips are very thin like mine filler helps to balance out the face. But unnaturally large lips on some people look horrible, yes.

Tiptoedancer, how much did you pay for the silicon 1000? I've been doing research on this and it is the only filler that looks natural IMO. I don't want huge lips either, just a boost, and don't want to pay a fortune and have to keep going in every so often.

I believe it cost me $500.00 and I think it was 3cc's total. A year later I had another 3cc' which was another $500. This was about 6 years ago. I live on the West Coast so I don't know how the prices compare with other regions in the US. I went to someone who had a lot of experience with silicon and used medical grade silicon 1000. Most of the problems have been through the use of industrial grade silicon or just having too much injected. Less is more.

Thank you, that sounds very reasonable cost wise. Yes, industrial silicone is popular for quacks/non medical professionals and that's why there are those horror stories out there. From what I've read silicone 1000 using the microdroplet technique is safe and very natural looking.
