I have a problem keeping moisture in my skin. My pores clog if something is too rich but I really need help with a skincare line that is for ageing, dehydrated skin. Any suggestions?

I've been using natural skincare lines which use a lot of oils vs creams. The oils just don't add the moisture I need. Thanks,

Alexis

Have you tried Camellia oil? Epiderm has a 100% therapeutic one that recently came out that is very good for the skin. It is what I use at night for moisture and my skin is dry/dehyrated. You can use a tad on cheeks during the day but then I suggest a SPF over it.

I haven't tried camellia oil but I have used other oils. It seems that oils just sit on my skin and don't absorb, or take forever to absorb and I don't have the patience for that.

I'll take a look at it (thanks!). I was hoping to find a cream though. My skin seems to like fast absorbing creams better.

Hi Alexis52,
If you are looking for something to treat ageing, dehydrated skin but find that products designed to treat this type of skin are clogging your pores then maybe (if you haven't already) you could incorporate some regular gently efoliating into your routine......I'm 40 and I've found that, at my age (which is a wonderful age, I might add!); regular, gentle exfoliation is mandatory. I'm convinced that if I didn't regularly exfoliate, I would end up with clogged pores (since, at 40 my skin is not "turning over" as quickly as it once did). My sister is 38 and started to break out for no apparent reason...once she started to more regularly exfoliate, the problem went away..I know that this could just be one of many reasons for your problem but (in my humble opinion Smile ) it's an important one to consider...there are some really popular exfoliating/deep cleansing products on this forum. Two humzingers are Dermalogica Microfoliant and Dr. Hauschka's Cleansing Cream - Do a search and you'll get lots of interesting comments.
Good luck!

I do exfoliate, but maybe not often enough - once a week. I'll try that, too.

I guess I should clarify - super-rich creams can possibly be too much for my face. Rich creams will be OK.

And I still need suggestions. Wink

Sounds like your skin is desperate for moisture. I have very good results using the Elizabeth Grant serums. These are fantastic IMO. If the goal for your skin is 24 hr hydration, this will do it. I don't know where you're from, but if you live in the U.S you can find her products at Shop At Home on line or on TV and at the shopping channel in Canada.

Hi Alexis52

The following link will take you to a list of products that are effective for hydration. The decleor creams are really nice to use. Im not sure about the Dermalogica but their products seem so popular. I hope you can find something in this list that will help you

I have dehydrated normal/combo skin and I prefer using a serum before my moisturiser. At the time I'm using Babor Balance Concentrate and Babor Sensitive 24h cream. Nice combination that really works well for me.

Aga, you need to buy the moisturiser that summarises your skin, dry, oil, normal, sun damaged, anti aging. If you buy one too rich, it will clog your pores and you will experience breakouts. Introduce new products slowly so you can monitor the results.

Thanks gals. Some nice suggestions. I've been eyeing the Babor stuff and the Dr. H. stuff. Not sure which would be better.....

Cindi,

It's so difficult to find the right products that will not upset my skin Sad

My skin is dry so I choose products specifically for my skin type. However when I buy them online they dont have the discription that they have on the box in a store. So it's hard to buy things online when you are not sure how they work.

So yes, it is TOUGH to find those great products! Smile

I agree with SusieQ - Egrant is great for hydration! While I didn't get really impressive firming action from her line I must admit that it is first rate if you are looking for something that is super-hydrating...no breaking out or congestion either...and it's a great bargain too,(if you buy from the Shopping Channel). Alexis, what products have you used that have caused you problems?

I've been using natural skincare that is rose oil based. My skin looks very even toned now, doesn't get oily from over-drying it with oily skincare lines. It seems that after a while, my skin gets dehydrated. I work in a very dry office and I'm attributing it to that.

The most recent "regular" line I've used is Dermalogica. Just OK. I'm looking for more regenerative, anti-ageing stuff cuz, well, I'm gettin old!

Office air is a killer, isn't it?! In my humble opinion, a first step towards treating ageing skin and dehydration would be to incorporate a vitamin C serum followed by a hyaluronic acid serum into your regime....there are heaps of C and HA products out there....I've started using the Vivier C serum and think it is superb(used to use Cellex C) and I use the Cellex C B5 serum overtop....I can't imagine being without a vitamin C serum! Another popular anti-ageing treatment is the Janson-Beckett Alpha Derma CE - I haven't tried it yet but I think it's popular... and the "Prep" that goes on before the ADCE has hyaluronic acid in it.
Anyways - hold tight - I am sure you will get many more suggestions!
Good luck!

Hi Alexis52
I too have the same problem - skin is dry and dehydrated but when you apply a moisturizer that is too rich, break outs follow.

In the last year, I have found using a hydrator like B5 gel (from Skinceuticals or Cellex C) works well to plump up my skin with leaving too oily a film. To prevent moisture loss, I still do apply a moisturizer. So far, I found Valmont's Regenerating Radiance Cream and Cellex C's GLA for Dry Skin are quite good. However, being the skin junkie that I am, I am still trying out new moisturizers - current one - Orlane's Super Hydratant Moisture

Perhaps we can swap notes when you get a good one.

Cheers
Jenny

I just want to re-emphasize the suggestion of camellia oil. My skin has always been dry and when I bought some products from beautyport.com, a sample of it was included. I absolutely love it. I use so little and my skins feels great. At night I haven't felt a need to add more moisturizer but if you need to, the camellia oil is supposed to help products applied over it absorb better. In the a.m. I use some Dr. H. Rose Day Cream because I like the way makeup goes on over it but for hydration, I really don't think I need it as much as I used to. I also love the Decleor Arommesscence Angeligue which I used before I discovered camellia. It feels wonderful and smells divine (strong for some but I love it.)

I am with you Nanapost. I love camellia oil! It is not expensive and absorbs nicely into your skin. I put it on when I wake up in the morning and let it absorb before taking my shower. After my shower I apply all my AlphaDerma line and top it off with DermaButter. I only need the DermaButter in the winter. I also use Camillia Oil on my legs as they get dry in the winter. I have heard it is great for your hair too.

So can Camillia Oil be used straight up? Does it need to be diluted or mixed? And please let me know where to get some!

I'll give it a try. I've used Emu Oil and it's OK but not great. It seems the oils just don't do enough for me but I'm game to try.

I've been reading about camellia oil and I'm ready to give it a try. Do you find one brand to be better than another? Which would you recommend?

I haven't been here in awhile because I ALWAYS find something new I can't live without, like the AlphaDerm! That stuff is calling my name, too!

Alexis52, the camellia oil I have is from beautyport.com. I originally received a sample of it when I ordered Alphaderma CE from them. They send out orders very quickly and once when I put in an order on a Saturday, I asked for them to ship it out quckly and someone actually sent me an email saying they happened to be in the office that day so sent it out right away. I was impressed with the service. I put a few dabs on my face and neck and blend it in with a real soft touch. Sometimes I put it on before I shower. A little goes a very long way.

Do you mean goldportbeauty? Goldport has Silkia Camellia. Sassyred also has a Camellia Oil. I believe they are two different types of Camellia Oil. I have only used the Silia so far. It was sent to me as a sample when I ordered my Vit. C. I can't compared the two as I have only used the Silkia. Like it very much.

Besides topicals (and I like rose hip oil and rice brain oils for natural hydrators)...I would also suggest that you drink lots and lots of water. Many of us walk around slightly dehydrated all the time. When I keep water at my desk, then I find I drink more and my skin really does reflect the change....lots less of the fine lines...
