Good afternoon everyone!
I just used a self tanning moisturising milk on my face the other day and it gave me a beautiful healthy color and a glow as well!
I am wondering though.. Since theres some chemicals in the self tanners that make our skin appear darker, are they bad for the skin?
Is there anything there that I should be aware of or it safe to use products like that?
Thanks!

Aga,
I have been using St. Tropez self tanner for ages. I love it. As far as all the ingredients I just don't worry about it. In fact, I never read what was in it . The color looks good when I need a little pick me up. Heck, I am 60, been using self tanners for years, and have nice skin. Self tanning is a wonderful alternative to sun bathing without SPF. Enjoy Aga
Surely someone will respond if they feel there are harmful chemical in self tanners. I just happen not to be an all natural type person. |

I am with Winnie. I can't see how it would be bad for you, especially considering the alternative. Also, Dr. H makes a great Bonzing concentrate. |

I've used self tan almost everyday for 6 years as I have photosensitivity (sensitivity to the sun). I can't sunabathe!. Looking at my skin, its not doing me any harm! |

I'm not Dolly, but I *am* pale I use the Dr H bronzing concentrate on a regular basis and it's not too dark. It gives a nice healthy glow and you can add more, if you like, to make it darker. |

I agree with Winnie on this one: even if self-tanners might have a ingredient or two that isn’t great for our skin (and I don’t know if this is true or not, I’m just saying *if*!!), it surely couldn’t be anywhere as damaging for our skin is actually broiling one’s self under the sun!!! I’ll continue using my self-tanners forever.... |

Thanks for responses girls!
Look what I found:
Both bronzers and extenders are safe and have been approved by the FDA.
Steer clear of tanning pills and tanning accelerators, says the FDA. Tanning pills contain carotenoids, the same substances that give carrots their orange color; when taken internally, they are distributed throughout the body and skin, making the skin orange. The high levels of carotenoids contained in the pills cause damage to the eyes, impairing vision.
Tanning accelerators, which are intended to speed tanning, are creams that contain the amino acid tyrosine, a chemical that aids in the tanning process. Accelerators do not work and may also be harmful. Neither tanning pills nor accelerators have been approved by the FDA.

Yes, I have - many times. But not the St Tropez. I love that self tanner to bits but I am still a chicken when it comes to putting it on my face I prefer to use a much lighter one on the face, even if I have to do it twice, rather than one that might make me look like I fell asleep on the beach |
