Hi, ladies. This is my first post and am wondering if i can get some help. I get red bumps and irrited skin on my calves when i shave my legs. I've tried all types of cream etc, from normal to sentitive, to really senstitive lotions. I've tried double blades, tripple blades, heck i even bought some of the stuff in the woman's aisle.
How do you ladies do it? I want to know your secret. =]
THanks,

Hi James, welcome to the forum!
I don't usually get irritation when I shave my legs but I have two tricks up my sleeve for when things go wrong. The first is TendSkin to prevent ingrown hairs and help the bumps go away quicker. The second is just good old Tea Tree Oil body lotion |

James -
I used to have the exact same problem! It got to the point where shaving, for me, became a huge ordeal because I knew I’d end up with horrible, painful ingrowns all over my legs. But I’ve finally got the problem licked: the secret is to exfoliate before shaving! This removes the layer of dead skin, and also sorta “raises” the hairs up so that you get a closer shave. Since I’ve been doing this, ingrowns and razor burn has become a distant memory! A few months ago, I posted the ‘recipe’ for the exfoliating scrub that I’d been using which you can read about by clicking here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=3068 Until your existing ingrown hairs begin to heal and disappear, you should apply TendSkin (or the homemade version) after shaving, although once the existing bumps disappear and you no longer get new ones, I’ve found that I don’t need to use my TendSkin after shaving any longer.
Since I posted my original findings, I’ve discovered that if I’m shaving frequently (i.e.: every day or every other day), then simply using my ‘exfoliating gloves’ to vigorously rub down my legs before shaving is sufficient. But during the winter time, if I don’t shave as often (i.e.: once a week or longer – hey, I’m wearing long pants, so who’s going to know if my legs look like pipe cleaners?!), then it’s best if I use my homemade aspirin leg scrub before shaving.
HTH,
Carrie |

I also have that problem, and I find that Robathol oil works extremely well for shaving (there's nothing in it to irritate you, and the oil provides a good shaving barrier.) Also, I like the Kiss My Face moisture shave pretty well. Anything else freaks my skin out into a mass of red bumps. There are compounds that a doctor can prescribe you for it (that's what I usually rely on for soothing treatment lotions afterwards) so that's always an alternative if you want to take that route. I've also been using the Venus razor. Just make sure you remember to change the razor heads very very often so as not to add to your irritation.
On a side note, can anyone recommend a good home-waxing product/system? I remember having had bad luck with those in the past and wondered if anyone has found one that works well. Also, are those recommended more than Epilators? Braun has an epilator that has awesome awesome reviews, and I'm wanting an alternative to shaving for a while. I hate hate hate even the tiniest of stubble, and I'm tired of shaving every other day. |

James - just don't put Tend Skin on freshly exfoliated skin. I once used it after I had this bright idea to use Dermalogica Microfoliant followed by Tend Skin. Let's just say that I still remember that day like it was yesterday |

Something along those lines. I swear I could have flown that day if I actually put a bit more Tend Skin on... |
