Help!!! I have been using decleor cleansing milk, toner for combo/oily skin, and the ylang ylang oil. All seem to be working for me so far, however I am still very red in the face. Not rosacea, but just red. Yes, my skin is sensitive as well as oily and I'm at a loss as to what I can use to reduce the reddies...Any suggestions?? |

Lizzie - has this always been a problem? Have you tried products that are specifically targeted at calming down the skin? I just wonder if the redness is due to one of the products that you use, given that you have sensitive skin.
I wanted to add that a friend of mine who is *always* red-faced has just been diagnosed with very high blood pressure. Apparently her redness is purely due to her blood pressure. Most of us get our blood pressure checked when we go to the Dr but I just though I'd throw that in as well to make people aware of the importance of getting regular check-ups. |

Mabsy,
Unfortunately, this has always been a problem. I have never found a product that calms it down. However, when I wash and go to bed, I notice now that my skin it not red in the morning. I have been going to the doctor quite regularly for a stomach disorder recently, and my blood pressure is rather low. I was wondering if the yonka pg creme or the decleor harmonie creme would be good, but I am worried about "creme" since I am also oily.... |

Lizzie - this is going to be just a stab in the dark because as I said I've never had the need to try products for redness. However, YonKa makes two creams (Phyto 54 and Creme 11) for controlling redness. http://www.essentialdayspa.com/yonka-phyto-54-p_612.htm
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/yonka-cream-11-p_611.htm
Also, I have a tube of Decleor Harmonie Essentiele which is really good for skin reactions or irritations. If your skin is in fact red because of sensitivity then this might be a very good product to try. Good luck with it all, I hope you find something that works for you! |

Lizzie, I have precisely the same problem. Redness on the face and not rosacea. Go to your doctor and ask for a precriptive topical cream he/she can prescribe. The one I received was compounded with a mixture of cetaphil cleanser and Clindamycin 2% which is actually a VERY MILD antibiotic. I use a very thin layer, twice a day after cleansing only on the red parts of my face. Its been working very well. This has totally reduced the redness on my face. A jar of this will last a good long time. Check it out. Ordinary beauty products will not work. I have tried every anti-redness product over the years with NO SUCCESS. Good luck with this. |

Lizzy,
I was thinking of you when I went to my local CVS today. This product sound very good. Worth a try for the price.
"Looking to help those women who suffer from facial redness, Eucerin, a Beiersdorf brand, is bringing to the mass market a new skin care system designed to provide immediate redness relief and improve the condition of visibly red skin in four weeks.
According to the company, it is estimated that more than 16 million women in the United States battle facial redness, a common skin problem that often appears on the nose, cheeks and chin.
The four-step Eucerin Redness Relief system includes Soothing Cleanser, Daily Perfecting Lotion SPF 15, Tone Perfecting Crème and Soothing Night Crème. All of the products are formulated with Licochalcone, a skin soothing extract of the licorice root.
Furthermore, the Eucerin Redness Relief Daily Perfecting Lotion SPF 15 and Tone Perfecting Crème are formulated with green color neutralizers to instantly counteract visible redness on the skin. When used in skin care products or cosmetics, green pigments can counteract the appearance of red skin.
The products will be available in March in CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Duane Reade, Eckerd, Brooks, Osco Savon and Longs Drug Stores. The suggested retail price will range from $8.99 to $14.99."
Hope this helps,
Winnie |

Are you sure you don't have rosacea? You might not have been diagnosed correctly, but its different for everyone. Some people that have it ALWAYS look red. I have it very minorly, if anything my skin is slightly pink sometimes...people think when you have it its supposed to be this extreme condition (which can be if you dont take care of yourself), but if you're talking extreme chronic redness, I would go to a few dermotologists. My first one just said i had acne (even though i had one zit) |

Thanks guys for all the wonderful advice!! I think I might have an extremely mild case of rosacea. Since I can't stand it when my face gets hot, and it turns red with heat and washing, etc. I'm going to talk to my derm about it and see what he says, and then possibly purchase one of the redness reducing products if he can't suggest anything. Wish me luck....Thanks again!! |

I have sensitive skin that gets warm and red occasionally, especially with certain foods or a glass of wine, etc. Decleor Harmonie really has worked for well for me over the past couple of years and has evened out my skin tone a lot. |

Sophie9 and Mammania what kind of skin type do you have? I have oily skin. I have been using decleor creme cleanser, toner, and ylang ylang oil. The last couple of days I started breaking out!! I haven't broken out in years.... Don't know whether to attribute it to these products or the fact that I went off birth control almost 2 months ago. I was on the pill for fifteen years. |

FYI - there's a three page article in the April 2005 issue of Lucky magazine called "How to Get the Red Out" which takes about different products and treatments for folks with blotchy red skin. Here's a small snippet of the article, which may or may not be helpful but I thought I'd post it just in case:
When Seeing Red Means Seeing A Doctor:
"To clear a stubborn rash or inflammatory condition, you may need to go on a mild steriod for a brief period, says NY dermatologist Adam Bodian. Seborrheic dermatitis and ezcema can also be compounded by the presence of yeast on the skin: in that case, Bodian suggests an antifungual treatment like ketoconazole cream (prescription medication) or over-the-counter Lotrimin (athlete's foot ointment).
To knockout rosecea-related breakouts, there are topical medications like Metro Gel and Finacea -- or, for more severe cases, oral antibioticss. "Rosecea is like high-blood pressure," says the dermatologist. "Controlling it requires prescription treatment, and you have to use your medications every day."
If your skin flushes due to a certain activity -- say, after drinking or exercising -- you may want to consider taking an oral antihistimine like Claritan an hour before you hit the bar or gym. "Your flushing may be due to an allergic reaction," says Bodian.

Lizzie, I don't want to scare you but when I went off the pill after taking it for about 5 years my skin went crazy! I went to my derm and she said that it seemed my breakouts were caused by the changes in my hormones and there wasn't a lot she could do, that I just had to take care of my skin and wait it out until my hormones went back to normal. I went to my local health food store and they gave me a herbal supplment called Vitex agnus-castus. I wasn't expecting anything great from it but it's supposed to help balance hormones and has other benefits such as helping with period pain, pms etc so I gave it ago. It has made a HUGE difference. When I had finished the jar I gave it a couple of weeks before I bought another one because I wasn't sure if that's what was helping my skin or if it was the products I was using but sure enough, within a couple of weeks without the supplements I was getting breakouts again.
As far as cosmetics to help with redness, I really like Dermalogica's Ultra Calming Cleanser and Jurlique's Calendula Cream (it also helps with pimples and scarring). |
