Hi all,

I was looking for MSM powder on the internet, and saw this http://www.msm-msm.com starting Aug 2005, more than 5000 vitamins and supplements will be GONE Shock

Can anyone outside US, esp. people who live in Europe verify this ?

Any feedbacks will be greatly appreciated Smile

Really worried,
D

This is an update from the same site...

"Update: Things are looking a little better as of April 5, 2005. According to The Alliance For Natural Health:

There was tremendous news today for the millions of people in Europe who choose to use food supplements. Following a landmark challenge in the European Courts of Justice (ECJ) brought by the Alliance for Natural Health and Nutri-Link Ltd to the contentious Food Supplements Directive, which effectively proposed to ban 75% of vitamin and mineral forms, Advocate General Geelhoed, the senior adviser to the ECJ, gave his Opinion in favour of the Alliance’s case.

What does this mean? That the chances of consumers being able to continue using the natural food supplements they believe are beneficial to their health are now greatly increased. There has been uproar about the proposed EU ban, and maybe, against the odds, the consumer is going to come out on top in what is a remarkable modern day case of David and Goliath.

In a statement released in Luxembourg today at 0830 GMT, the Advocate General concluded that:

The Food Supplements Directive infringes the principle of proportionality because basic principles of Community law, such as the requirements of legal protection, of legal certainty and of sound administration have not properly been taken into account.

It is therefore invalid under EU law.

End Excerpt

While this is indeed a good sign, again according to The Alliance For Natural Health, it should be stressed that the Advocate General’s pronouncement is not a ruling. That will come from the ECJ judges, later - probably around June. But typically, in the vast majority of cases, the Court Judgment follows the recommendations of the Advocate General.

So a battle has been won, but the war is still going on. Let's not let this small victory lull us into complacency. We have a chance to win this thing if we continue to apply pressure both abroad and here at home. To those of you who have become active in this fight, I thank you and I am sure your fellow supplement consumers thank you as well."

They have been trying to pass this law through in the UK but it has not taken effect .......yet!!!
It's only to keep us unhealthy and hooked on medications!!!
It makes me so angry, first of all with all the intensive farming that just destroys all our nuitriants in the food, then the GM that feeds us all chemicals and hormones and now they want to cut vitamin and vitamin doses.
Hmmmm and how many governments are endorsed by Smithkline and other such pharmacuticles.
Just keeping us dependant on prescription medications, it's all about money at our expense.
There's my little rant on the subject Rolling Eyes

Good to know that the law hasn't passed in England, the article makes it sound like the law already exist in Europe....

last time I checked we were Confused Laughing

seriously many companies have already re-formulated their products because of the law, many people are buying from US sites to get the vits they want.

Essentially what they are saying is if you are selling a product promoted for sat for eg it may reduce pms. Then each item in that pill has to be tested medically to prove it. As you can imagine for most vit companies that is ridiculous...not such a problem for the big pharma's who are moving in on the 'preventative' market....this is despite the fact that herbs like black cohash, agnus castus have been used to many years with little problem...

This is so annoying, I haven't been able to get kava kava for nearly 2 years now, just because a couple of people in germany who were using it got liver damage (the fact that they were chronic alcoholics had nothing to do with it of course Mad ).

Generally, I support the idea of a united europe, but some stuff is just so plain stupid it makes me seethe.

If anyone knows where i can get some kava, please let me know Smile

Ha, glad I can help. I am curious again, what do you use it for, if you don't mind me asking....I am constantly searching for new natural herb. I know some natural sleeping pills has it, but I was told it only affects people who are REALLY sensitive.

Last time I read, it was supposed to be gentle relaxant for stress/anxiety.

Like many herbs it's effects can several months to show.
Lots of 'sleeping' herbs have things like hops in them.

Diderot have you tried melatonin? I got a bottle last time I was in the states and hell that stuff knocks me out! In the end I was taking a 1/4 of the dosages to make me sleep (not that it's a big problem but I rarely sleep through..tossing and turning all night so often get up tired).

I used Kava Kava to great effect when I was suffering a confidence crisis about riding my whizzy horse - worked really well. I was annoyed when it was taken off the shelves. Mad

yeah, I was taking it for stress and insomnia. I have been using valerian, but it is really smelly, especially the tea bags (I thought a sock had crawled under my cupboard and died!).

You have to watch using melatonin or your body stops making its own apparantly. It should only be used for short periods, but I was tempted to try it because it can enable lucid dreaming.

I wonder if I shag Depp in my sleep and I'm aware I'm doing it, does that count as adultory? Confused

I wasn't suggesting mass use of it, just now and again through bouts of insomnia...or drug induced fantasies involving mr.depp.

(I'll let you know where I buy it from Very Happy )

any dream induced action with said Depp is not under your control so you are guilt free Wink

LOL Laughing VERY NICE SIDE EFFECT !!!

I have been drinking herbal tea each nite before bed. Chamomille+lemon balm+lavender flower, works like a charm !! I have tried melatonin before, worked too but I found myself kept increasing the dose, NOT A GOOD SIGN, so I stopped.

The tea helped me a lot, but for some reason, I couldn't get more than 8 hours of sleep now, I used to be able to sleep over 12 hours(my record was over 24 hrs non-stop, but I was sick that time), my sister had to actually come in my room and feel my pulse whenever I did my sleep marathon, really miss it Crying or Very sad

Eve, the whole point is that it IS under your control ... I normally dream about college of face cream Confused , so a sexy dream where I'm in control would be very cool Laughing Usually my sexy dreams end up with me running up a cliff Neutral I wake up and ask myself "why did you do that? that was David Walliams you silly woman!"

D, if I could sleep even 8 hours it would be heaven, 12, and I'd think I'd died Laughing

I've only done it on occasion, usually I've half woke while in a dream, thought I'm dreaming and drifted back to where I was Cool that's nice Wink
