I honestly didn't like either. My skin reacted (rash from dermalogica, zits from yonka) to both of them...
Lots of people do have success with them...They'll comment I'm sure |

first of all, i an almost 25 year old american woman with combination skin and a tendency to break out on occassion.
a year and a half ago, i was so frustrated with my skin, that i went and had a dermologica facial. i was given product samples and advised of what products would work best for me. well...in one night i noticed a difference using the active moist moisturizer. it actually cleaned my skin while i was asleep, and left my skin well-moisturized, which is very important to me. i also used the microfoliant, which you use once a day, and this made my skin glow. I received the first compliments i had received in years after using the dermal clay cleanser, the microfoliant, the toner, and the active moist. twice a week i would use the mask with lactic acid in it, which is supposed to be for all skin types. from my experience, it leaves you skin looking nice sometimes, slightly irritated others, but always tight feeling. it is supposed to be for all skin types.
so...it definately cleared up my acne, but then i noticed my skin was starting to change. it was becoming dryer and tigher after i washed, so i decided to try their gel cleaner and the moisturizer up a level in their collection. my skin was starting not look as good, and was still tight feeling, like i had to apply moisturizer all the time.
fed up, i recently decided to have a yon ka facial. she told me that some people have reactions to dermalogica products because of the high plant content, but that she has heard that they work very well for some people. i thought i needed a new cleanser, and she recommended to me the milk cleanser from yon ka, and also yon ka creme 11 as a moisturizer and for redness.
i have to say....i have been using the cleanser and moisturizer from yon ka for over a month now, and it works for my skin. the cleanser leaves your skin feeling soft - normal! it smells fantastic, and is non-comedogenic and for all skin types. the creme 11 really does even out my skin tone as it moisturizes.
my friends all wish they had my skin! the yon ka products have not made me break out at all. i have to mention that i do use retin a now. i prefer a chemical exfoliant to a grainy one. i use retin a 5 days a week or skip every other night. this combination works for me.
so...it depends upon your skin type i think. if you have acne prone skin, the dermalogica products can zap those up, as they did mine. but i think their other moisturizers and masks are a bit harsh. i'm a little over the whole dermalogica process and like the simplicity of the yon ka routine i have. both are effective; one was more irritating for me. there is a gel yon ka cleanser that i hear many people like as well. |

There are products from both of those lines that I like and that work for me well. I don't think you can really compare two product lines in general. Each company will have some products that will work for you well, it's just a matter of trial and error. |

I agree with Mabsy. I don’t think it’s fair to say that one line is better than the other because I think they both have at least one stand out product (i.e.: Derm’s Daily Microfoliant and Yonka’s Juvenil), so it all depends on the needs of your skin and what results you are hoping to achieve. Which is why I think it’s beneficial (not to mention a helluva lot of fun!!) to mix and match brands products until you find the perfect regimen for you. Personally, I’m using stuff from Dermalogica, Yonka Decleor and CSRx and it’s working for me.
The moral: each person needs to experiment to find what’s right for them. |

it's a hell of an expense to go through trial and error with these products!
if you get anything from the dermalogica line, try the microfoliant (miracle!) and the active moist. i think these are two of their most popular products, and there is definately a reason for that.
yon ka's cleansers are more gentle and effective in my opinion. now....if someone could help me find a really great eye cream, i would be eternally grateful! |

Hi Girls..!
Thanks for all your posts.
I guess you are all right. It is a matter of trial and error, but on the other hand, yes it can be quite expensive.
About a month ago, I purchased the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel, as well as the Microfoliant. Now I don't know what it is about Dermalogica, but the moment I start using it, I break out, mainly around the jawline/neck area, chin and side of the cheekbone area...Must be something in it. It always gets worse before it gets better. Usually I give up and swap cleansers, but this time I persisted..and it's gotten better quite quickly, and now I'm slightly blemished with light scarring ( I picked most of them - hehe). Anyway, I found that Dermalogica is very drying on my skin, so it's dried the pimples out (which is a benefit), but I don't know why it's soo drying. My skin is of a combination sort, oilier towards the end of the day. Am I using the right cleanser...? I chose this one over the Antic Bac wash (Dermalogica), but I think regardless of which one, my skin reacts in the exact same way. Even with the Microfoliant, I was using it nightly, and the cleanser in the morning...and I quickly stopped that, once I noticed the break out of pimples. I now only use the Microfoliant once a week, on a Sunday at night...and I never apply moisturizer at night. Love to go to bed with a clean face! So, hence my question about the Yonka products. Would they be more suited? Are they more gentle and effective in removing impurities from the skin, without causing a major breakout...?
Apologies about the long winded post....but I need HELP! haha |

yeah...i also noticed the dryness with the dermalogica special cleansing gel as well.
i now use the yon ka milk cleanser. it works really well for me and i have not broken out at all using it. it really does remove makeup too! i have heard rave reviews about their gel cleanser as well. my face feels very clean and refreshed using my yon ka cleanser. you could maybe try a yon ka cleanser and the microfoliant. it would be a good place to start? |
