Hi,
I really need some advice. Two weeks ago I used a glycolic acid cleanser and then the next day I used a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel on my face that I left on over night.
When I woke up I was horrified at the sight of my cheeks. They were shiny, tacky to touch, enlarged pores everywhere, lines connecting pores, orange peel-like texture and there was an awful burning sensation. I was (am) so sick to my stomach and just so distraught.
Since then the burning sensation has stopped but I still have some tingling left and all of the problems I mentioned above are still there. I know I basically damaged my skin and it's going to take some time to heal, but I was wondering what can I do to help repair my skin barrier?
I was using manuka honey and aloe vera gel but my skin is so very dry that both of these things have made my skin even more dry! So now I'm using CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser and almond oil. I'm not sure if there's a better oil, like avocado oil to use?
Anyhow I'm really concerned about my enlarged pores. Will they return back to normal size? Has anyone had this happen to them? Any advice is appreciated, thank you. |

Ouch... Sorry I don't know what to say. I only write to suggest you read about argan oil and coconut oil, maybe rose hip too... I always read they are like "the best" of oils... Good luck! |

Ouch!
You need to allow your skin to heal and reestablish the acid mantle by the sounds of it.
Personally I'd stop using the foaming cleanser as the detergents (even gentle pH balanced) can be drying. I'd switch to a basic cream cleanser with minimum fragrance an additives, you could also just use a basic oil instead.
A basic (no fragrance) moisturiser is also important (You could use a basic aqueous cream or if you prefer natural something like Gaias are nice (www.gaiacreams.com) if you apply an oil do so on damp skin rather than dry, and try to handle your skin as little as possible.
Aloe is soothing and healing but can be drying but you could mix it with your oil and apply. But be careful sometimes even that can be too much.
Wear a mineral SPF (chemical based one may irritate) as your skin will be more prone to sun damage.
Be patient and keep hydrated, eat well and don't even touch an exfoliator until your skin is completely healed.
Hope you heal soon. |

I suggest you use lotion cleanser instead of foam cleanser.Because the foaming cleaner will make your face more fragile. |
