Hi all, I'm new to this community and hope to enrich myself whilst sharing my own DIY experiences. Something's bugging me for quite awhile and I like to take this opportunity to post my queries.
So I read about the importance of using chelators in green tea and vitamin C serums, just so the LAA would not be oxidized by the metal ions in green tea. I plan on making a new batch of vitamin CE ferulic serum, eye gel and a moisturizer containing plant extracts, including green and white tea.
My questions are 1) If not including green tea in the vitamin C serum directly do I still need EDTA in the moisturizer with tea extracts since I be layering that over the vitamin C serum with a wait time of 15mins in btw?
2) If using a chelator is unavoidable and since my routine is to use vitamin C serum only 3 times a week, would it be okay to add the EDTA to the vitamin C serum rather than my daily moisturizer? Or it has to be in the moisturizer for it to bind the metal ions? I ask this because I try to make my products as chemical free as possible.
3) I bought a revital eyes complex from formulator sample shop to make my eye gel and it contains pomegranate extract and green tea. Pomegranate as we know contains loads of vitamin C. So I guess the problem only lies with LAA in its pure form and not vitamin C naturally found in fruit extracts?
4) Do all plant extracts contain metal ions because I was recommended to purchase Purslane BioFerment from formulator sample shop to help stabilize my vitamin C serum. It's a Portulaca Oleracea Ferment Extract so that makes it a plant extract? Yet it's supposed to help reduce vitamin C oxidation
5) I have been using Leucidal as a natural preservative and so far nothing gone bad on me but I have heard from some, including Brambleberry that it is gaining a bad reputation as a preservative that doesn't work. Of course most of the plant extracts I use have anti-microbial effects as well so I wonder if anyone has experience with this preservative and has some imput?

Great questions. I'm curious what the answers are, too |
