Hello EDSers, I would love to hear about others who experimented breakout after using tretinoin for its "anti aging" properties. I started with 0.05% every other night applying half a pea sized amount. My skin looked better during the first 5 weeks but started to breakout on the 6th week. Since then I've reduced the tretinoin to twice a week. Nevertheless, the breakout kept getting worse so I stopped on week 9. It's been 9 weeks since I'm completely off tretinoin and every day is worse than the last. My chin(from ear to ear down to the top of my neck) is covered with red bumps, pimples and blackheads.
My question is: what can I do to clean this mess? Please help... |

I had this problem the first few times I tried starting retin-a.
I believe the skin can hold deeper infections that have to surface which can take months. Retin-a can open the flood gates.
I found moisturizing and only using tiny amounts of retin-a (a smudge) on my whole face. Start once or twice a week then work up. Slowly increasing over time I now do a large pea size of .1% nightly and my skin continues to improve.
Cleaning up my diet and juicing seemed to help my body clear up the problems as well. |
