Does anyone suffer from winter acne problem? I reside in New York and have suffer mild acne probelm during the winter time. I've tried using Proactiv and worked but have stopped after a year of usage, reason being that it drys up my skin. I'm currently on Murad Acne Complex but have consider Dr. Perricone's line of acne product but too pricey. Does anyone have the same problem? This problem had persist for more than 4 years now and I have no solutions. I consider my skin type as dry during winter and oily during summer. Does that consitute as combination skin type??? Any personal or professional opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Notawinterguy - I'm wondering if perhaps you are not "dry" - but dehydrated. You *sound* like a somewhat oily skin with dehydration.. If that's the case then you'll need to exfoliate (gently) to surface clean and allow the oil to surface. You might want to try Dermalogica Microfoliant (very popular!)....Dr Hauschka's cleansing cream is an amazing decongestant for the skin - you might consider that too (my FAVE!)...the trick is not to be too agressive -- or you will stimulate your oil glands and produce even more oil...a nice cream I used to use (years ago!) that was wonderful for treating dehydration without congesting the skin is Clarins Blue Orchid cream. If you are really quite oily, the Clarins Lotus cream is great -a fave of mine from *way* back!
Good luck,
Pudoodles

Hi Pudoodles,

Thanks for replying to my post with your personal experience. You're right about my skin being dehydrated. My skin is very dry and will get flaky at times. I've tried using Neutrogena moisturizers that stated on their lable that it wouldn't clog pores; however, I discover otherwise since I've been getting a lot of white heads and have discontinue with the product ever since. My main concern of my breakout is always located around the jawline, cheeks and forehead. It's not so much on the T-zone area so does that consider oily skin? I would definitely consider your recommended products. Once again, thank you so much for reading and replying to my post.

I have another question: Can you please advise where I can purchase the product that you have mention above. I search online and it shows many different products so I'm not sure which one is the right one. A direct link will be greatly appreciated. Thanks =)

Hi notawinterguy -- and when you don't treat the dehydration - you end up layering product on "dead skin" -- further congesting your skin...Some people think that a traditional dry skin is the most sensitive...I think that an oily skin is...it's so prone to infection...and too often, people overtreat oiliness - surface dehydrating their skin causing more breakouts because the oil can't surface...The Dermalogica Microfoliant and Dr. Haushka cleansing cream can both be purchased here at EDS...if you can afford to get both - I would....and use the Microfoliant 1 or 2x weekly and the Dr. H every day (this is the best, most gentle decongestant I've ever tried!)I know you can get Clarins plant extract creams (Blue Orchid and Lotus) at most department stores..
Good Luck, Notawinterguy!
