I have been doing facial exercises and seem to have a tendency for the mouth to over build very quickly. I have been using a program and no matter what I do it builds up over and over again. I even tried not doing the exercises that tend to work out the mouth more and still I get the over build very quickly. I had done random facial exercises before using a program and I definitely over did the mouth exercises.That was before I knew you could over build. Now they build up easily ever since then.I let my face rest a couple weeks or so and try again more gently but still the same results. Has anyone else had this extreme mouth sensitivity? I need to be able to get my cheeks lifted to help with nasial labial lines and sagginess but am unsure how to without causing my mouth to build like it does. Anyone have any ideas?

May I ask which facial exercise program you're using? How many times a week are you doing them? What types of exercises are you doing?

With any program you use, I think its always best to get proper advice from either the program creators or someone who they have trained to answer questions. For example with flexeffect they have the trainers there, with Facercise and Carolyn’s Facial Fitness the creators of those programs answer queries directly.

I have heard some muscles build quicker than others and that for some it’s the mouth but like you say, those who reported it are the ones who did a particular exercise for the mouth throughout the day and then they had woke up that muscle and so when it came to exercising I’ve seen it suggested that they don’t work out that muscle frequently but also they only do a small number of that exercise. I’m not a trainer of any sorts but have done facial exercises for past 10 years and when I have overbuilt my mouth it was due to me doing several different exercises from a variety of programs for the lips and over working them.

I would ask the relevant program author about the goals you want, and they will be able to suggest.

Hi Angel

I would say don't work the mouth muscle at all. When you lift the face up and outward (much easier than you would think) you resolve 90% of the issues that concern you about your face. Lack of firmness, jowls and n/l lines are all caused when a few key muscles succumb to gravity and hang down from the bones leaving swags and overhanging flesh. People are amazed to discover that the youthful shape of their face is still there once the drooping flesh is lifted clear of the jaw, lower face, n/l area, whatever, and the face, so to speak, is held high on the bone structure again. So I think stop exercising the orb. oris (mouth), cut right back on building the muscles in general and focus on lifting, lifting and more lifting; the exercises where you smile are the crucial ones.

Loulou, I agree. Some exercises (eg triangularis) don't do our beauty much good.

What this issue proves, though, is that facial exercises DO work: they can build muscles. You just have to be careful which ones to build.
