Hi folks!

I could use a little help. I used to do glycolic acid peels on myself, but a few months ago decided to step up to TCA peels in order to gain better results.

I started on 12.5% (just to be on the safe side) and have moved up to 15%. All has been going well on my face - fine wrinkles have been obliterated and my pesky 11s look so much better after only three 15% peels.

However, whereas I was pleased (and still am) with how my facial skin looked, I hated the fact that my upper eyelids were looking pretty crepey. It made putting eyeliner on a bit of a nightmare, and it was then that a friend (an experienced TCA peeler) suggested that I use the 15% TCA solution on my eyelids. She seemed to think 15% would be OK to use as it is a relatively weak strength of TCA.

So about a month ago, I applied the 15% TCA to my upper lids, left it for a few minutes and then washed it off. My eyelids did peel a little, although they did so very slowly. Sadly, not only did it not do much for the crinkles, it seems to have made my upper eyelid skin much more "loose".

When I spoke to my friend about this, she seemed to think this was a temporary thing and that my eyelids would improve with subsequent peels. Well, here I am, one month on and having carried out a second eyelid peel... let's just say I don't share her confidence. This time, my eyelids stung a lot more and I was barely able to keep the solution on for two minutes. My eyelids look terrible today and the skin is really loose now.

Is my friend right and will things improve with further peels? Is there anything I should be doing differently? Or should I just stop now before doing my eyelids any further damage?

I would really appreciate your sage advice on this issue, ladies.

Thanks,
Colette

Collette,
I would definitely not do another one for a while until you see what's happening. I routinely peel my lids with Natural Aqua Gel CURE, which I order off the net. It is strong enough to peel off the layers of dead skin, but not an acid. I think it's an enzyme based product although it comes from Japan and the label is in Japanese - the instructions were useless.

I use it all over my face every ten days or so and love it. I have replaced all my exfoliating products with it.

Everyone's skin is different so it's hard to know what is going on with your eyelids, but I think they probably will tighten up if you don't peel them again. It normally (for me) takes about a month to see how a product is going to work.

Hi Cherallynne,

Thanks for the advice. I haven't touched my eyelids since the peel, and I'm happy to report that not only are they peeling, but their previous tautness has also returned.

I will defintely not be undertaking a TCA eyelid peel anytime soon - the experience has left me a little wary. I'm going to check out the product you recommended as it sounds like it could be ideal.

Cheers,
Colette

Colette,
So glad things are healing up well. Can you advise where you purchased your TCA?

I once did a 55% peel on my entire face which took a long time to heal - about ten days of looking awful. Confused

Thanks,
Cherallynne
