Hey guys:
I have recently bought EMU oil from this small magical shop. The owners face was flawless and I asked her what she used. She said emu oil. I bought some but haven't started using it yet becuase I am nervose to put oil on my sensitive/breakout prone face. '
here are the claimed benefits of Emu oil:
Natural SPF
Helps scars (acne and cuts)
helps heal burns (fire and the sun)
has pain killing effects
anyone know anything else about it? |

I use an EMU oil-based lotion for back pain. It has a cooling pain-relieving effect. I have never heard of using EMU oil on your face. I would use any Decleor Essential Oil, Apricot Oil or Olive Oil instead. I have used essential oil on my face since I was 23. I am 54 and people say that I look 40 because of my excellent skin. Oh, and did I mention I am a sun worshiper? |

Hey blg83,
For me, Oils have always good for skin and have noticed that they get absorbed much faster than creams/lotions. I haven't had any breakout ever since i started using Decleor Ylang Ylang.
How i came upon the oil was Last December I visted my Aunt in Asia and I was amazed that all she use is an Ayurvedic oil followed by Vitamin E oil 30min before shower and sunblock when she is out. Her skin is flawless and radiant. So i used hers and OMG I couldn't believe my skin: soft, clean, radiant. I just wish they would sell that oil her but had to settle for ylang ylang since it gets the job done. |

I didn't see that type of oil, but I found the website I was thinking of: "The National Institute of Aayurvedic medicine". Look at it, it has a lot of different oils. |

a friend of mine uses emu oil and swears by it. She has pretty reactive skin from what she says about it, but it looks pretty good to me, tho it is a little rosy. Personally I'd check about it being a natural SPF tho |

I found emu oil a bit heavy for everyday use. It took a while to sink into my skin also. The one I used had a tint of "chicken" smell. I much prefer camellia oil, grapeseed oil or olive oil. |

Emu oil is supposedly good for the skin (and has anti-inflammatory properties) though I have not tried it myself. I must say that I would rather stick to the Decleor ones or Rosehip oil instead. I don't know any people that use emu oil, though I'm sure many do as I see this stuff in shops quite regularly.
Emus scare me It's a bit disconcerting when a chicken is bigger than you and is after your chips (happened to me once in a park in Canberra ) Hmm, I suppose just for that I SHOULD be using it - REVENGE! |

No.... I dropped the chips and ran like I've never run before (and since)
Would have loved to see the Llama though! I hope someone was taping it and sent it off to Funniest Home Videos or When Animals Revenge or something of a similar nature! |

Boy, am I late finding this thread! IndianT - there is an online source for Kumkumadi Oil - it is basically an oil made from infusing saffron. Like KumKum powder for the hair & hands. The link is:
http://www.ayurvedalaya.net/productsorder.php
I have never used it, but I have used neem oil. It is wonderful for the skin, but I couldn't take the smell. I smelled like a jar of peanut butter or somehting. My aunt uses the Emu oil on her eczema and swears by it.
If you are into Ayurvedic skincare, have you tried any of the Better Botanicals line? They have a terrific Rosewater & Tulsi toner. It gives you a pink glow and smells soooooo good!

I am also addicted to their Cardamom Lip Balm. It's fabulous! |

I love the Emu oil. The woman who reccomended it to me had flawless skin (could be genes, could be the bird!) She also told me that she ships her emu oil to tons of different companies who use it in their creams as an effective anti-aging ingredient. I find that it is very anti-inflamitory and soothing. I use it on my face 15 mins before I wash my face in the morning and 15 mins before I shower at night. Indian T told me her grandmother uses her kumkumadi (sp?) oil that way too. It doesn't smell like anything either. I am not sure if the emu oil that the one person used was clean because it should smell like chicken!!! Overall, I have incorporated it into my routine and I have been very happy with all of my results. |

indianT:
I don't know if they ship internationally or not. You'd have to email them and ask. I don't see why not, I mean you're the one who pays the shipping anyway, not them. As for the Better Botanicals - I love their Sandalwood Facial Moisturizer. It is very light, not greasy, and smells terrific! I also like their Cardamom Lip Balm, like I said. I go through that so fast that I buy 2 or 3 at a time! Of course, I do lose them a lot too! |

Ahhh....
It is the emu oil that does all the tricks in the expensive moisturizer, Erno Laszlo's Phormula No 39, which contains emu oil. This line (Erno Laszlo) uses emu oil in almost all of their products. Phormula No 39 costs $200 for a 30 ml bottle. In the product insert, it states that it does the things blg83 listed:
Helps scars (acne and cuts)
helps heal burns (fire and the sun)
has pain killing effects
After I use it up, I will not purchase any more of it.
blg83: Does the lady sell her product to any location within US? How do I purchase it from her?
Thank you,
Rose |

I have really sensitive skin and it has not been a problem for me at all. The woman who sold me the oil said that it should not be a problem for any skin type. The way I use it is that I before I wash my face in the morning I put a dime sized drop in my palm and rub my hands together then lightly brush my face with it. For me it sinks in almost immediatly (maybe becasue I only use a drop). I then go about my buisness and wait 15 mins until I wash my face adn do my normal routine. It moistureizes without blocking pores and even after washing it off.
I will find the woman's number and give it to you so you guys can call and see if she ships. |

Hi,
I have been using straught emu oil, unmixed with anything else ,for about a year on skin cancer scars. I have recently started using it as a moisturiser all over my body. It works great and is so much cheaper. You can buy it at almost any health food place.Try mixing in a few drops of your favorite perfume for a GREAT body massage. My scars are gone and I look refreshed again-NO BULL!Just use a few drops,it goes a long way.You can even take it in a capsule form for essential fatty acids to fight high cholesterol instead of vitamin E.Add a few drops to your shampoo for silky shiny hair too.
Good luck. |
