Hi everyone
Just wondered if anyone on here has had eye bag surgery? Wanted to find out peoples results - good and bad. When I've Googled e/b surgery there has been so many storys of it going wrong, it worries me, as I really want a permanent solution to my under eye area problems but obviously don't want to do anything which is going to make it worse. Anyway thanks for sharing your experiences ; ) |

I had an upper and lower bleph about five years ago and was very happy with the results. The surgery itself is a relatively minor procedure. The eyes will be very red and swollen afterwards and you look like you've been a through a few rounds with Mohammed Ali - but at least you can wear sunglasses to go shopping. Recovery is pretty quick though. |

Does the upper get rid of droopy lids, or is it for something else Keliu? I am such a procedure virgin it's not funny! LOL If it helps with that I might have to save up!!! |

That was the basic reason I had the surgery. My eyelids were resting over my eyelashes and were disturbing my vision. I used to feel that I had to walk around with my eyebrows raised up to relieve the "pressure". It's so worth getting done.
Also, I have to tell you a funny story. When I was living in China, I used to go shopping every evening. The large department stores at the time were running a promotion for the little patches that were applied around the eyes to get rid of eyebags. The minute I entered the store, I had a chorus of Chinese beauticians shreeking "yandai!, yandai!, yandai!" (eyebag! eyebag! eyebag!) I was then accosted and sat on a stool and made to wear these patches for 10 minutes. The whole thing was so humiliating because a huge crowd would gather to see this Westerner sitting there with the patches on! So, in the end, I went and bought a pare of tinted glasses so I could shop in peace.
But I swore to myself that the minute I got home I was going to go and get my eyes fixed - so I did and I'm very happy I did! |

OMG I am amazed the beauticians would do such a thing! I am glad you have the sense of humor you do to laugh it off now!
Mine don't sit that far down yet, but I hate the droopy lids and they have gotten worse with age!
Thanks for the reply, when all settles I will be looking into getting this done. |

this is something I would definately consider too, but I don't think there that bad just yet!! If I had the money I would have a facelift, it's my lover face that worries me the most. I actually think my skin's integrity is really good, its just starting to sag, and I think the only think for that is surgery.
Do you mind me asking where you went Keliu? and how much it cost for the eyes? I wish health insurance would cover some of the cost of comestic surgery |

I went to the Lotus Clinic on the Gold Coast and the cost was around $AUD6,000. However, I actually would NOT recommend going there. I did have some trouble with my surgery - firstly I was allergic to the eye cream they gave me to apply and they took too long sorting this out. He also had do re-do under my left eye twice because there was a lump there. So all in all, my surgery was problematic - but I would still recommend getting it done. |

thanks Keliu, this is why its always good to have feedback from someone who's had a particular procedure done. I am in Melbourne.
A facelift is such a huge undertaking, it's so important to find the right surgeon. Its not easy to do, alot of plastic surgery is still such a taboo subject, I suppose most people don't want to admit they have had anything done! Bit of a catch 22 situation! |

I had an upper and lower bleph over 2 years ago and it is the best thing I have ever done. It tightened up my upper lids so I don't have to hold them up to put on eye makeup. It took the tired under-eye luggage off and smoothed out the lines. Now my hubby wants to have it done someday.
My doc said it is permanant and that I will not have to do it again.
Recovery was about 14 days on the eyes and 6 weeks on the swelling, stiches and laser redness to fade.
Best thing I ever did! |

Thanks for posting your results Annie! I am not sure I need anything done in the under-eye department, but my drooping lids have been bothering me for a while now! I guess when I save up for the procedure and find a ps I can trust I will see what he/she recommends! |

to those ladies that have had lower eyebag removal - did you also have excess skin removed? If so, where is the scar and is it noticeable? |

Yes, it was inside my lower eyelid, cannot be seen at all. |

Thanks Annie,
Where do they hide the upper, in the crease or is that inside as well? |

I've had a few friends who have had this done and an ex-husband. He was 40 at the time and had droopy lids. It really helped him a lot.
Me - I'm sticking with facial exercise. The knife scares me. |

I just had eye lift surgery done 3 weeks ago. I didn't have the lower eyes done, just the lids. It cost me $1600 for both eyes; it was done in the dr's office so I didn't have to be put to sleep. I'm very happy with the results so far, but am obviously still healing. The incision is in the fold of your eye, so once it has faded it shouldn't be noticeable. The surgeon I went to believes in doing a longer incision rather than a shorter one. Some surgeons won't extend the incision past the corner of your eye. What mine explained was that, if needed, he will extend the incision. The way he said it was that he would rather have a longer incision that will eventually fade than have a shorter incision, but end up with your skin folding at the corner of your eyes. Even though I am still swollen, my eyes feel much lighter. I used to feel like I had a truck sitting on my eye brows - that feeling is completely gone now.
I had one eye that required more work than the other. The left eye's incision was longer and it is still a little noticeable. Your eye lids are red looking. It looks like you're wearing eye shadow. It will fade back to normal skin tone though. I also looked like I have been beaten up, but in addition to the swelling on my eye lids, I had one eye that went really black. It didn't hurt, just looked terrible. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was my vision was blurry for a number of days. I wish I had known to expect that. My surgeon told me that that is more common with people who have had their under eyes done - I'm always one to be different !! I couldn't read and felt a little dizzy and nauseous because my vision was so off. BUT ... It only lasted for a couple of days and I was able to read and get on the computer again. I still have to use lubricating drops to help with dry eyes.
Plastic surgey is such a personal thing. I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't something that really bothered you, but I am really happy I had mine done. I won't know for another couple of months just how good the results will be, but already they look a lot better than they did. No regrets here ! |

Time2Bme,
Thank you so much for the very detailed and informative post!
I would expect the redness and beaten up look, my youngest had simple surgery for esotropia at 5 and looked horrid! The entire white of the eye is blood red!
Anyway I am glad to know about the incision being in the crease and not inside. You may have noticed my earlier post and it's really only the uppers I am thinking I need. Also appreciate the information about the longer incision being preferable!
I am sure once you are healed you will be thrilled just like others have!
Heal up fast! Looking forward to your report when all is normal!
Thanks again for posting your experience. |

Time2Bme,
One other question if you don't mind, what area are you located in? Just curious as to price range. I thought it would be higher, although I haven't looked into it yet!
TIA |

I live in Ottawa, Ontario. I know that it is cheaper because it is a procedure that is done in his office. My family doctor recommended him; he did her eyes as well. She told me that several of her girlfriends have gone to see him and she has referred any patients interested in the procedure to him as well. The way she described him was:
- he is a sweetheart
- he does great work
- for the price, he can't be beat. |

Thanks for the reply. How did the surgeon remove skin from the inside of your eye? I've seen the technique where they cut around the lash line and extend out - like Cleopatra style eyeliner, but of course that leaves a scar. |

I had upper and lower bleph about 10+ years ago and have been very happy with the results. I had very prominent bags that had bothered me all my life. I had read at the time that bags can be removed from inside the lower lid, without an outer incision. This was what I thought I would do, but being in my 50s I also had extra skin, so I opted for a lift of the lower lid. My PS remarked that once I had my lowers done I would notice the drooping upper lids. This was a passing comment, I wasn't pressured or convinced but it made me decide to have both lids done.
Someone here said we need it done every 10 years. I don't think so. My bags haven't come back and upper lids aren't droopy 10+ years later. Scars are practically invisible. I can kind of see very thin, short scars on my upper lids but they are in the crease and can't be seen by others. I see no scars on the lower lids.
There is down time with swelling and discoloration for about two weeks, it looked awful and it made me call my PS with desperation in my voice. She kept telling "it will get better" repeatedly... I went back to work with heavy make up, after 1 week and I'm sure everyone noticed but thankfully made no remarks
I'm very happy to have done it. At the time it was $4000. |

Thank you !!! Good Luck
My surgeon told me that the results tend to last 10yrs as well, but he also qualified it with the skin he removed won't grow back. He said that the skin that is there will eventually start to sag, but that it was unlikely that it would get to be as bad as it was. I can't speak for the time frame for under eye bags though. |
