I used Anthelios 50+ with Mexoryl, and want to
buy a physical sunscreen to use on some days.
I found SuperGood SPF 40, with 20% Zinc Oxide.
Good review, thought it would be a good choice.
I'm looking for a high level of Zinc Oxide as opposed to Titanium Dioxide...then I see this site....
http://www.justaboutskin.com/sunscreen-essentials/
He says with Zinc Oxide there has to be Otocrylene?? Well, it is not in the ingredient list on the Supergoop, I also looked at the ingredients in Juice Mineral sunscreen, with 20% zinc oxide, A Solbar Mineral sunscreen, and the NIA24.
Is the High level of Zinc Oxide enough?...has anyone heard this before. That's knocking aside
a lot of Physical blocks. I really like the Supergoop, and I was hoping it's a good choice.
Thanks,
Linda

Ignore what he said about Octocrylene. It's not an ingredient you see often in zinc sunscreens, especially the better ones like Burnout. Yes it does add some UVB and short wavelength UVA protection but zinc does fine on it's own. Especially in the non-nano 20% range.

I would not make my own sunscreen. What is "Wellness Mama" background?

I don't know where she is getting her spf ratings on the various oils.

Just my two cents....

This is an article on layering sunscreens.

It is an option for some.

Here is another article (blogger - N/A) about using two different sunscreens.

http://www.vivawoman.net/2014/11/why-i-use-two-different-sunscreens-together/

I have looked at the Derma-e one and even in Canada it is reasonably priced.

Ingredients from site:

Active Ingredient: Zinc Oxide 16%

Inactive Ingredients: Purified Water (Aqua), Capric/Caprylic Triglyceride, Propanediol, Glycerin, Methylcellulose, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract* (1%), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C, Stay-C® 50), Decyl Glucoside, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

How about a non-chemical sunscreen? Can you use a zinc oxide and or titanium dioxide?

Zinc oxide has more UVA protection. If you do a board search many members here prefer physical only.

I am not against DIY but I don't believe a reliable sunscreen could be made at home.
