I know that mineral make-up has been discussed to death on this forum already but I still have some questions about it. After months of browsing and reading reviews of all the different brands of mineral make-up I've narrowed it down to Jane Iredale or GloMinerals.
Does one brand provide a more matte finish than the other? I've tried a small sample of the JI Bisque in the loose base and I didn't really take to the pearlescent look it gave to my skin. It seemed to accentuate any imperfections in my skin.
At the moment I'm eyeing up the GloMinerals pressed base. Will this leave my skin looking 'dewy' or will it leave my skin matte? If I bought the GloMatte Finishing Powder would this get rid of any pearlescent shine the base leaves on the skin?
Also, with the Jane Iredale products - would using the Absence before applying the foundation stop the minerals from looking so dewy on my skin? Some people say that the Absence helps to disguise their pores but others don't have the same results.
Anybody tried the Jane Iredale PureMatte Finish Powder? Will this blot out that pearly, dewy look that mineral make-up leaves on the skin?
Sorry for all the questions!
I really want to jump on the mineral make-up bandwagon but having tried a sample of Bare Escentuals and Jane Iredale loose bases I wasn't very keen on the way it looked on my skin. The shine of the product highlighted all my blemishes.
It's very much like using a silk paint or a matt paint on your walls. A silk paint will highlight any bumps/cracks on the walls as it bounces back the light and highlights the imperfections. With a matt paint there is nothing for the light to reflect off so you don't notice the flaws so easily. |

Toe - I've used Glominerals loose foundation and JI pressed base. I think the two are very similar in terms of quality and finish. I doubt that I would be able to tell JI from the Glominerals if I had somehow fogotten what I had applied in the morning.
I'm quite surprised to read that you though the JI left a pearescent finish. I haven't tried the Bisque in the powder form (I've tried it in the Liquid Minerals form) but my JI pressed base in Warm Silk certainly does not leave my skin with a pearescent finish (this is something that the BE foundation does do however). The Mineral Veil in the BE line does take away that pearlescent look, so perhaps the JI Finish Powder would do the same? Sorry, I haven't used it so I don't know. |

Thanks for the feedback, Mabsy & Lianne. I think the fact that my skin gets oily quite quickly in some places may be contributing to that overly 'dewy' look.
I think I will go for a pressed base as this is less likely to give me that pearlescent finish. Will also order a finishing powder to help keep the shine at bay.
Will go for the GloMinerals as their products are cheaper. That way, if they don't suit my skin then it won't be as expensive a mistake. |
