Is this the start of aging signs? Im seeing fine lines but i think from a little weight loss and is not helping things. But my skin i can pinch and doesnt feel hard to pinch anymore has a slight squishy feeling. My skins also so thin and i dont even exfoliate alot my skin cant take it. I only do it once a week. Also i do wear sunscreen when im out incase anyone is going to recommend that Smile

At the moment not really using any anti aging products as my acnes not under control yet. But hopefully when i get it sorted what would be the number one thing to thicken skin out a little and restore that bit of firmness. I know vitamin c is meant to be good but my skin cant hack it would a diff type of vitamin c firm the skin or are they just for brightening? Also what about facial exercise or red light to maybe help spots and anti aging wise.

My skins crazy sensitive so i need to be careful and i put anti aging stuff aside whilst i try combat the acne.

Thanks Smile

What is your skin care routine now? I would be more concerned about the breakouts rather than anti-aging now.

I understand you are using sunscreen. Fantastic! You are using the a great anti-aging product.

Vitamin C can build collagen and also work with your sunscreen (during the day) as an anti-oxtinate. I am not sure what vitamin C you are using now. There is different strengths and different types of active ingredients for vitamin C.

Here is a blog post (not mine/not affiliated) that explains different types of C.

Hi Autumn1995! Thanks for the reply.

At the moment i just wash with cerave hydrating cleanser on days i dont wear makeup, or if im inside and no sunscreen. I use garnier micellar water to take off some makeup and cerave foaming to get off my makeup i sometimes have to use the garnier again to get off the last traces but i have to be really careful incase my skin gets irritated.

I exfoliate about once a week, sometimes gently with a muslin cloth and sometimes with left over bha or aha (small percentage)that i'd bought a while ago, my skin hates them more than twice a week plus the ones i have are full of natural ingredients which my skin reacts a bit too (i have irritations to alot of foods) so think that is why. I get no major reactions from this like other things ive tried in the past (allergy blobby lumps) so i dont see the harm in just using them up just not using them too regular just incase?

I pat my face dry after washing so its just slightly damp and then apply cerave pm (it doesnt irritate me so thats why i use it) i cant tell if its enough moisture for me. It's annoying when your breaking out and trying to find the perfect moisturiser. So i just stuck to it for now.

I have broken out going through periods of not using anything on my skin so i know its most likely an internal problem.

I used to have quite nice skin before my acne started about 3 and a bit years ago now and i barely washed it back then! It makes me wonder if actually washing irritates it, maybe it doesnt like the chemicals in water. But dont know if i could afford to wash with distilled.

Im also completely bumpy on my face just the tiniest pores u can imagine slightly bumped up (its evrywhere) but i also have the same on my body and think its something from within causing it and im seeing a nutritionist right now to get to the bottom of things. Just waitning on some tests for adrenals and possible candida, bacteria, fungus in my gut etc.

Vitamin c i tried was l'ascorbic acid and butylene glycol. My skin just lookda bit redder and i cant exactly describe but my skin hated waiting for it to soak in before applying moisture after washing!

Would another type of vitamin c give firming results like l'ascorbic or is it just for antioxidant purposes? I see on that list you showed some say only for antioxidant. But i have seen some of those in some brands and says it works for collagen production. Im unsure!

Sorry that was rather long lol Thanks again Smile

What is in the BHA and AHA products? Natural can still be a problem for skin. I would not use them up if you think your skin doesn't like it.

I would also hold off on the vitamin C. I don't think your skin should appear red after cleansing/using a serum.

When you wear a sunscreen, are you removing it well? Physical ones (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) really need an oil based cleanser. The CeraVe and micellar water are nice on days when no SS or makeup is worn but IME it does not remove my sunscreen and mineral makeup.

The little bumps could be clogged pores.

I would be interested in your test results from your nutritionist.

I use the PC bha 1% lotion and the 5% aha one.

I have used oils before but once again natural oils make me worry they are doing more harm than good. I also found it didnt take my makeup off that well, doing micellar water and cleanser seems to do an ok job though. Im a bit stuck with having such sensitive skin Sad

A couple of suggestions if your water quality is lacking. Some people install a filter on their shower head. Hard water can make hair look dull.

I like to use canned water in a mist as a final rinse. Evian, La Roche Posay, Vichy have products. You can also buy high quality water (Evian, etc.) and put in a spray bottle as a final rinse.

How does your skin look after it has been washed? Does it feel tight?

It definitely could be aged. Mine was by early 20s because Im fair and got a lot of sun as a kid.

The good news is that since I was so upset about the signs (earlier than my peers) I became fanatical about sun protection and used retin A when I could.

I also improved my diet, really anything I could do for my skin.

Now ten years later my skin has only aged a bit. I went through some stress and also a period of irritation where I couldn't use those products, so I bet you can do even better!

For you:

Exfoliation: I would only do chemical. Physical can be irritating. I stopped washing my skin for a few years, but honestly I got clogged pores. Try cutting vit. c which can be irritating and using an otc retinol which is usually gentler but anti aging.

Sunscreen: chemical irritates a lot of people, including me. Try a physical one?

BTW I am able to get my physical one off with Purpose cleanser, and i do think it clogs my pores if i don't wash every night.

DIET- I was like you. Acne AND weird bumps, redness, etc.

I had to cut dairy bc it inflames my skin. So does alcohol, which sucks. And generally any processed carbs too. Diet cured most of it. I can eat tons of rice, fruit and meat. Just not things like chips, crackers, bread, dessert, candy, basically sugar/carbs.

I tried dairy recently and my skin blew up again...

Autumn1995 are showerhead filters removable? Reason being I don't live alone and others would be using it and it would run out fast id imagine. It would be good if I could take it off easily and replace the normal shower head?

Do you know any good ones that I could buy from the UK? I saw some a while go that were from America but a little apprehensive to buy from there.

I might try the Avene spray for a final rinse. Thankyou!

Any chance your skin was or is sensitive? I was going to try a vitamin c to begin with but a gentler type like SAP or MAP but still don't know if my skin will like it. Retinol I wanted to leave as a last resort as my skins very very sensitive. I do use SPF when I go out...I want to everyday but because im not sure whats keeping the bumps around trying to keep heavy things to a minimum if I can. Chemical ones irritate me too!

As for diet its an awkward one, I saw a nutritionist who says she thinks I may have adrenal issues. She has told me to change up my diet but im struggling to eat enough whilst wanting to work out and tone up my body. Im trying to eat more protein but don't know if the sources of the protein might be contributing to it. I guess I will have to talk to her about this. My skin was fine until I started eating les starchy carbs funnily enough but I don't know if it was that or something else triggering it. But it hasn't let up for over 3 years now. Now the bumpy skin is on the body and on my breasts with some acne. I'll have to see what the tests show, also getting one for candida.

Ty for the info though you've gave me some hope!!!!

My skin is very sensitive

I have found vitamin C to be too irritating.

Retinol might be too much, but what worked for me was doing short contact therapy with retin A. You just leave it on a minute or two before washing and you get the benefits without much irritation.

About the bumps- I stopped using facewash for awhile because of irritation, but I have returned to using purpose, which really takes on the sunscreen and now I don't have bumps anymore.

For me, internally I find that green juice really seems to help my skin.

Purpose gentle cleansing wash.

It's still a teeny bit drying, but I feel like it thoroughly cleans and doesn't irritate. Creamy cleanser like cetaphil aren't enough. Otherwise I get clogged pores/bumps.

I find retin a .025 gentler than vitamin c. Hope it works for you!
