Does anyone have any current thoughts or information on layering skincare treatments, devices or interventions?
There are so many antiaging modalities to use at home these days such as microneedling, lasers, radio-frequency, microcurrent, LED, facial exercise, facial massage etc.
I am curious about how people who utalise more than one or multiple devices or practices go about it?
I believe that things like Microcurrent and LED can be used along side more invasive treatments like dermal needling and radio-frequency / laser as well as with facial exercise and massage. However can things like Micro-needling and radio-frequency be used along side things like massage and facial exercise? Would massage or exercise have a detrimental effect on the would healing, remodelling phase of the treatment?
From what I understand its better to keep things like micro-needling and things like radio-frequency devices, and laser seperate as they are all sort of doing similar things.
I image that it might be possible to maintain a schedule or cosmetic dermal needling with a 0.2 roller during use of a radio-frequency device but I am not sure.
If you want to include both dermal needling and radio-frequency then how best to do that? should one complete a couse of dermal needling to gain the desired effect then switch to and RF device?
My feeling is that probably using multiple approaches is better for addressing skin / face antiaging as they are all slightly different but that its also a bad idea to do too much all at once. I suppose this is where an experianced dermatologist or therapist is helpful but for those of us dedicated to diy, home intervention how do we best layer these treatments and devices? |

Hi pandora77,
My gut instinct and experience is that when you use multiple modalities you achieve a synergistic effect where the combined results exceed the results of individual modality results when added together.
It's the synergy that improves results. However, you must watch your skin carefully to ensure that you do not over do it and aggravate the skin, which is bad. You want to irritate it a bit to promote collagen processes but not go overboard. Go slow, learn your tolerance over time and under different conditions.
Yes, micro needling and RF devise or Red Light therapy are good combinations. When I do a deep roll, first I do a strong set of resistance facial exercises (flex effect) then I do all the stuff for a deep roll, then I may use RF and always use my near-infrared spa (that I built) and red light. Then I massage (instructions that I received from an estheticain).
I love this routine. I would not do facial exercises if the skin is ragged from a micro needling treatment, I would wait until the skin heals and inflammation decreases, probably a week or so.
Anyways, I am 60 and adore the synergistic effect of combined DIY/home treatments. However, I monitor my skin closely and back off if necessary.

I personally layer the use of retinol over glycolic acid 8 percent every single night and I'm loving the results so far.
I will say it took months for my skin to develop tolerance to the use of retinol so this isn't something I would rush into.
I wait about 30 minutes before layering. |
